    many kids here now

You will find many families here including mine can help you with information as we've all been in your shoes. Nevertheless, your best bet is to contact the spouses club for starters and if you need anything cleared up please send me a pm here on this board and I'll be happy to reply as soon as possible.

    Shipping

    Hi and Congrads!

We are 1st semesters and we also have 2 kids. I shipped a lot of boxes (25 in total). The best way for us to save on the $$ for shipping was to Fed-Ex it to Miami and then ship it via boat thru 4 Star Cargo. I am sure you will hear both the good and the bad, but ours was great! Everything arrived just fine, except some books had a little moisture on them. But were fine. 4 Star Cargo costs us @ $300 in total! I think that was well worth having items around that remind me of home. Also the kids toys and books (6 boxes in all) were great to have because they have their "stuff" and are occupied! We shipped our desktop (we packed it to survive a small war!); decorations for the kids room (to look like home-that part is hard to find here); hubby's books (except for ones needed for 1st semester, just in case things were lost); craft items for the kids; printer (again, packed like crazy); photo frames of the ones you love! It means a lot to me to look around our home and see things that remind of the ones we love and cherished memories.

Everyone is different in what they want to bring, because what do you do when it is time to leave? Personally, I'll figure that out when the time comes. For now I am very happy I brought all that I did!

    Hopes this helps!

    bring a few boxes

I agree totally with mdswife. If you can spend a little extra to send down a few boxes of personals for family, then I'd do it.

It really helps the transition. A few decorations and photographs to make your new place seem more "homey" are really appreciated by the people who live there when you're away all night, elbows deep in dissection..
