Where to stay before dorms open?

    Advertisements

    Hey
Does anybody know of either a cheap hostel type place or of an apt to stay at the end of august for a week or two before the dorms open? Maybe somebody has a lease until the end of the month and won't be there, or something like that....Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

There is always the Sonesta Maho...
    or the Saphire Hotel.

Perhaps you can ask housing if you can move in early?

    I also have a futon.

I won't be here and I'm changing apartments for next semester, or I'd offer my couch too.

Hotels can be expensive. I don't know if they have some sort of hostel on the island, but it might be a good place to go if they did.

It's cheaper to pay $100 to change your flight to the day the dorms open.

if you have to come earlier then there are some hotels around the island that give student discounts...not that much...but it helps. i believe the summit (about a 5 min walk from campus) give discounts on rooms for students.

Unless you have a pressing issue to be here early, you might be better off coming closer to registration.

A deluxe room (all they have right now due to renovations) is $80 a night for the student rate and is the closest to AUC and the dorms. But as everyone else has said- waiting until closer to registration makes more sense.

Don't change your flight... The extra $ you'll spend on a hotel will be well worth your time here before class starts. You will get to see and enjoy the island without having to worry about school!

A few days, sure. But the OP was looking for somewhere to stay for "a week or two" which is a lot to spend on hotels just to see some of the island before school starts.

Unless you are moving into an off-campus apartment (and have already paid your rent), it is not worth coming to the island early.

Trust me, you will have ample opportunity to see everything SXM has to offer.

I think you will find that the novelty of the island will wear off quickly once school starts into full swing.
