    Medication Situation...need insight

    Advertisements

Okay, so I haven't been able to get a lot of straight answers on this from MEAS so I figured I'd ask you guys.

I take adderall as I'm sure a good number of students do, but I had some questions about getting it through customs.

    1) Am I allowed to bring my prescription down to St. Martin as long as its in my medicine bottle with my name on it?
    2) Do I need to bring anything else along with my prescription bottle?
    3) Is it illegal to have this on the island?
    4) Can I have future refills mailed to me from home, and if so what is the safest most reliable way to do this when dealing with customs?

That's all I got right now. My step-mom started bugging me out with all these questions a week before I leave so now I'm stressing about it.

    Thanks guys

When I went through customs, all they asked for was my passport and acceptance letter. There was no bag searching of any kind going on that I could see.

Don't worry at all about having to bring the medications down. Have them in your checked luggage in a prescription bottle with your name on it. Adderall is not at all illegal to have on the island. What I've done for my meds past semesters is have your doctor write a 3 month prescription for you. Then you can do the mail away order for the prescriptions. That way, you can come down to the island with a 3 month supply of your medications. If you're unable to do that, there is no problem with your parents shipping your meds to you each month. Just get an account at the mailbox, and medications will be shipped just fine to you. Hope this helps!

as your doc for a 3 month of adderal and 3 months of time relese adderal- that will give you 6 months. You can get ritalin on the island, not adderal

If you don't have enough of your meds to last you till the mail away plan kicks in- call you insurance company and tell them the situation. They'll give you a # to give to your pharmacy, that they can call for a vacation over ride. I got a 3 month supply of meds and now have plenty of time to sign up for the mail away program!
I personally would not put my meds in my checked luggage, in case it gets lost. It's perfectly legal to bring your meds with you on the plane. Why risk losing them?

For one, there is no customs on the island. St. Maarten is the only place I know of that has no customs. Immigration, but not customs. So, nothing you bring to the island will be searched. Second, adderal is not illegal on the island, but it is not available for purchase here either. St. Maarten doesn't have every drug that you're used to at home. They've got all the important stuff, and things that are close enough, but not necessarily exactly what you're looking for. It's interesting when you go to the doctor...eventually you know what you should have and the doctor knows what he wants to prescribe, but then you have to think about what they actually have, or have in stock at that moment.

So, ritalin on the island, yes. Adderal, conerta, or anything else for ADD, no. Bringing adderal, however, is not a problem

Kind of like in the US, where the doctor know what you have, and what he wants to prescribe, but has to make sure it's on the formulary with your insurance.

On that note, when I had a really nasty strain of mrsa- one they would put me in the hospital on a drip for 2 weeks (not the drip slevit got in the hospital)in hte US, here they gave me Pyostacin (aka pristinamycin, but that stilld oesnt tell you much) thats approved in europe for mrsa and visa infections, you can pop the pills at home, and there is none of the liver toxicity!
