advice needed - want to attend providence hospital

    Advertisements

    Hello.
I will take step 1 in may and was wondering how 'good' is providence hospital? I know they are AUC friendly, but do they teach well?
Would this be considered the 'best' hospital AUC has to do clinicals?
    thanks a bunch

    Yuh

I have conversed with one person there and he said it was really good teacvhing, he was quite pleased. However, he had to get some of his rotations changed to make sure they met the ACGME reqs or something, so don't rely 100% on the rotations they schedule for you, go the extra mile to make sure they are in ACGME-approved rotations. I didn't think this would be a problem at an AUC core site (especially the biggest one), but he said it was... just be careful.

    providence

I did a few 4th year alectives there. The hospital is nice. St John ( East side of Detroit ) is nice too. Both are excellent teaching hospitals.
Riz ( who I think posts here occasionally ) is a resident in OB there.

the whole ACGME thing, just make sure there is an approved residency in each core rotation that you do. There is no peds residency there but everything else is covered.
you work with students from Wayne state, SGU and the flock of DO students thatseem to populate every community hospital ( they are nomads like foreign students )

I lived at the Ramada inn---5 minute walk. A real stink hole, but what can you do
St John had student housing ( which was free when I was a student back in the dark ages )
