    Start Time Questions

    Advertisements

Hi, I am wondering giving you the option of going to school at May for AUC or Aug for SGU, which one whould you choose?
Could you analyze the advantage and disadvantage?

Well, I am inquiring about the St. George start date of Aug 08 versus AUC's May 08.
I am inquiring about the advantage of start early in AUC is worth it than to attend to SGU which has more clinical rotation spots, etc.
    thank you

Huge difference if time is important to you. If you want to finish faster, then go to AUC.

If time is not important and you don't mind paying more for SGU, then SGU is your choice. B/c SGU has 2 semesters per year and AUC has 3.

When you mean finish faster, you are implying to have 3 months study for Step 1 for AUC versus 6 weeks for SGU?
It seems to have more courses for SGU per term than AUC, is that the reason it has longer semester?
What about other issues such as quality of education and how people on average do Step 1?
McGillGrad, I am from Canada too, from University of Toronto. I do not really mind doing residency in USA and work down there and to apply for H1b Visa and ultimately to get a green card. So which grad from these two schools are more capable to obtain a relatively good residency.
I heard that there would be 400 students for the coming Aug term versus only 70 something for the AUC May term.
There must be a reason for people to spend more to go to SGU instead of SABA or AUC or any other school.
    Could you provide any insight?

uhhh i don't know about that chief. sgu has been around the longest and is the most well known, so maybe that would make people more apt to go there. but those schools you mentioned will get you to the same place, assuming you do the work. sgu's rep might also have to do with the caliber of the students there, but auc and others are right up there with them nowadays

no one here can really speak to what goes on at sgu. i think mcgill answered your question already as far as time is concerned. auc has 3 semesters per year with sgu only having two. if you have the scores, you can get a good residency generally.

you can take the time you need to study for step 1, you just cant start rotations without it. bottom line its a personal choice and i dont think anyone on vmd can help you decide.

I would love to hear your reasons for choosing one over the other.

Well, It depends... Do you like large class sizes or small? Some people like being "lost in the crowd" while others like a smaller class environment. Keep in mind that SGU has the 2 semesters per year so you will have a summer break, which might not be too bad if you plan on staying in the dorms, but if you are going to live in an off campus apartment and sign a lease, I am not sure how that works for the summers you will be gone.
