    AUC/No Cores in FL?

    Advertisements

Can AUC legally offer cores in Florida?

Here is a link (it is old) to a valuemd thread on this topic. http://www.valuemd.com/american-univ...ical-info.html

Is AUC still unable to offer cores in Florida? Tallahassee Memorial Medical Center in Tallahassee, Florida is listed as an affiliate on AUC's website. The website does not indicate which cores/electives can be done here.

    Does anyone have updated info?

you can do electives in florida as long as the school has a contract(affilation) with the hospital....

AUC has an affilation with Tallahassee...and we can do family medicine there...

If you fail at AUC, SGU, or Ross why not transfer to SMU, if you fail at SMU, why not try another SMU.

after doing much research into the matter, there are are acutally 5 offshore schools legally able to offer cores in the state of florida. they are AUC, ROSS, SGU, SABA, and SMU as per the florida dept of independent education.

i have to admit, auc has been making a lot of strides to obtain more clinical sites in florida the past few years. my post 3 years ago seems to not be the case anymore (things changed since the 1980's). we have SMU, whose office is located in florida, offering cores (not all greenbook) in florida. auc is in contact with a hospital in florida trying to establish it for cores. whether that moves forward or not is the question, but at least there is a dialogue.

as far as 4th year electives go...... the state of florida REQUIRES the school to have a written afiliation with the hospital. the state just recently started enforcing that law which has been on the books for quite a while. many hospitals started dropping the students from rotations with little or no warning.

auc's clinical and legal dept worked as fast as they could to get written affiliations with some florida hospitals. they originally had tallahassee which they still do. however they added two great new hospitals to their list of affiliates in florida.

Do you know offhand which hospitals they have added? The listing on the AUC website seems to be quite outdated. I have also heard that there are some sites in and around New Orleans. Does anyone know if this is true?

you missed it.... i had it posted for about 2 minutes before i deleted them . i figure that until auc formally posts them on their website, i will not make any announcements about which ones. i dont want to step on anybody's feet. call the auc clinical dept and they should answer your question about florida elective hospitals.

florida is the only state when you need to have an affiliation for electives.

Mermaid...pm me and I will pm them to you. I made note of the 2 Florida sites before Scott deleted them. I will respect his decision not to post them here however.

That list is sooo old. The clinical department doesn't bother to update it because "it changes too much" They just leave it there showing sites that AUC students have been at in the past.
