There is absolute truth in what you say...I was just giving my personal view WITH the ASSUMPTION that everything else besides those two points (MCAT and GPA) are in great shape. It is important to be noted by anyone, who uses valueMD as their information source, that whatever is said in these forums by no means should be considered as the LAW/RULES of applying for any medical school...but after considering your point I would have to agree, it does depends on many factors...I should have included that, case adjourned!

    chances?

I have a GPA of 3.5 and an MCAT score of 23P. Should I think about re-writing my MCAT or apply with my current score?

If you think you can do better then retake it...if you dont think you can, then apply

2.2 gpa. Terrible, I know. But I did take the hardest classes they offered if that counts for anything. About 10 300-400 level classes.

    I'm applying for jan '11

hmmm, hard to say. I'm not sure if that MCAT will make up for that GPA or not. Probably 50/50 for jan, at best.

I just wanted to say that I just got called by AUC and I have been waitlisted for Sept 2010. Below are my stats, in case anyone is curious to see how they stack up.

    -22P MCAT
    -URM, non trad student
-12 yrs exp as a CNA (worked in a LOT of diff areas.)
-2 yrs exp as an EMT-B
    -Member of 3 honor societies

Lots of social justice volunteer work, internship with nat'l reproductive justice group, shadowed 4 diff docs, strong LORs

    3 course retakes:

    Ochem 1: D to B
    Calculus: D to B
Bio 1: F to A (the F is almost 10 yrs old, well before I got serious about college, not because I struggled with the course. I simply never went to class.)

Just had an interview with Ross, still waiting to see if I get an interview invite from SGU. Trying to figure out what other Carib schools I should apply to, and AUC is looking pretty good, but I'd like to know if I really have a shot at getting in. Based on my stats, any other schools I should look into as well? I need some place where I can get financial aid, so SABA (sadly) is out. Thanks!

Just got my acceptance call for september, really surprised me.

Had a ..............cGPA, majored in biology, scored a ........... and have some community college (about 40 hours) with a GPA of ..........., along with 100hrs of volunteering in an ER.

I was really expecting a rejection, was dreading the thought of taking the mcat again.
Hope this can provide some hope to those worried about their stats. Best of luck.

I've been stalking you guys for so long, and so I figured I'd join see what you guys think about my personal situation. Long story... sorry!

B.S. in Biochemistry, about to have a diploma in Nursing (R.N.)
    MCAT - 27
    non-science GPA - 3.6
    sGPA - 3.06
    cGPA - 3.28

My undergrad sGPA is 3.35 (2 C's and I retook those classes and made A's). The reason my sGPA is so low is because I began a pre-med grad program and had no clue how to study. I made 2 D's and a C. I lost faith in myself halfway through, gave up, and enrolled in nursing school. High grades in nursing school for the past year and half, and although I had myself convinced that I could be happy being a FNP, it's so not true. Since nursing school, though, I've learned how to study. I even study on the weekends, which is a HUGE step for me! Another potential black mark: I missed two clinicals (overslept one day and I had already missed once for being sick) and had to repeat a course in nursing school. I can get an instructor to write a letter explaining that it was for clinicals and not grades, so that's not a problem. They made me withdraw but the WF doesn't even show up on my transcript! Crazy school...

The adcoms at DO schools and at Carib said to stay in nursing school and finish, which I planned on doing anyway. I know it isn't helping my sGPA at all, but I want to finish the program I started. After pouring over these threads, I've realized that nooooobody ever has a grad GPA that's worse than their undergrad GPA, hence, I'm in a weird situation. I have excellent LORs, tons of community service, lots of leadership experience (sorority positions, fundraising committee, student government in undergrad and nursing...), lots of clinical experience (worked with MD for past year and hello, nursing!), research experience under Physiology professor with one publication. I want to apply for next September since I finish nursing school next summer. Should I wait until the following January term?? What do you guys think? I'm interested in what Slevit has to say. He (I'm assuming) is so wonderfully honest. Just go easy on me... I'm a first timer!
