    Business school to Med School

I'm curious, I'm an older person and I'm considering changing my profession and getting into Psychiatry. My question is can a person get into AUC with a high MCAT score but without the class prereqs (org chem and such)? My ** is in Computer Information Systems and I have a MBA already.

    Thanks

Agreed, the pre-reqs are un-waiverable for the most part. I say for the most part, b/c I have seen MEAS accept biochem in place of orgo 2 in some cases (such as my own, as I took a combined 1 semester orgo 1/2), but that is rare. You need to have the basic classes to gain acceptance.

Good to know, then I have some night and weekend classes ahead of me. Thanks for the info. It would be nice to just go at the pre-reqs full time but it is just not in the cards for me now. I have a pretty good job which unfortunately just isn't fulfilling enough that I need to pay the bills until I'm ready to make the big jump.

my MCAT score is a 26
I have a 3.0 in Engineering( my program was a top ten program)

member of 3 clubs and president of one
I have shadowing experience and a good amount of volunteering
I applied 2 weeks ago, the admissions adviser told me I had a good chance but I was wondering what you all were thinking. Do I seem competitive?

how about your science GPA? your higher MCAT should compensate for your 3.0 GPA. you should be ok. what semester are you applying for?

Science GPA is the same. I applied for fall09. I have about 170 credit hrs so it will be pretty hard to raise it with out a masters program

    Need some advice

Hi, I need some suggestions b/c I'm desperate to start med school =)
Overall gpa: 3.2 Science gpa: 3.0 mcat: 23M
B.S. in Biochemistry from a state university with most of my prereq. science courses taken at a junior college. Will AUC frown upon JC courses? I haven't apply yet, any chance of making in the Sept class? I have noticed on the application asking for any prior military sevice, so does military experience counts for anything? (btw I was an Air Force medic/emt for 4yrs).

As prior service myself, I would say it counts for something. As far as the JC courses, no, they don't frown on them, as long as you did well. That being said, your MCAT is a little low, as is your science GPA. You would have a better shot in Jan or May classes, but probably would have a low chance for fall. Best bet is to apply and see. Good Luck!
