    Pros and Cons

    Advertisements

I'm sure someone has asked this before, but I am on the brink of applying to AUC and i want to know the negatives...everyone seems to be talking about the positives and i want to know the gritty truth...like how well AUC preps you for USMLE....how is it living there for real? etc

I ask because I went into AUA threads and it totally opened my eyes and i am not applying there anymore. So I ask those especially who have either been there a while or those who have graduated....what is AUC really like and does it prepare you well enough to practice medicine in the US?

Check out the AUC match list. Those docs were all in your position at one time and they achieved their goal.

pros-state approvals, federal loans, great match lists, long track record, thousands of practicing docs..not residents, decent pass rates, reasonable admission standards, island (relatively americanized-not much adjusting other than caribbean standard time), most faculty is really good, prepares you for steo 1, dean was a US med school dean, low attrition (you really have to try hard to fail out with credit limit and decel option)

cons-(most of these also apply to the other carib schools) cost-it keeps going up, few student support services (swim/sink academically mostly on your own), living away from the US... and i guess everything else is subjective like how many professors suck according to your learning style, how much prep you think you need for step 1 after depending on how much studying you do in 5th, how independent you are from parents, etc...

i think most people can succeed at the reputable foreign schools, you just have to go with low expectations and any of the top 4 will meet and exeed them
