    first week

I'm interested in hearing the newbies reactions for the first week of school. How's it going? Is it what you thought it would be? etc. Thanks for the input.

Wagers on how long before someone replies???

Two weeks ago, the future med students would have clobbered a post directed at them. Eight hours and no reply.

    Suddenly.... it's very, very quiet.

    resonse from newbies wife

Well as a newbie's wife, I'll say we love it here. This is truley paradise. God knew what he was doing when he created this place. If this place is paradise, I wonder what Heaven is like? So far we have adapted fine. The weather is just like living back home in Texas, so we feel like we are home. It is actually better because there is a breeze. We don't even have to run our AC. My husband loves his classes and he loves anatomy. So so far, it is great! Everyone has been so kind and we want to thank You all!

It's the fascia... It's got them all speechless. That and playing on a basketball court where the rim wobbles more than the ball.

Yes, they are on campus and stealing "my" chair in the library.

    end week one almost

I have to say I like what I see. Colburn is beyond good. I am liking Biochem, embryo. History and Biostats starts next week. After the first day I didn't have any worries about if this school would prepare me for step 1 and beyond. I have completely forgot we are in paradise. The material at the start is not a ton, but if you don't get on your horse now you can forget about it. This is only week one so I am just beginning to understand the school.

I should point out something... I have had a much easier time this first week then some of my classmates (some have had a tough week) and the big difference is I came to the Island early. I am so surprised by how many came 2,3 days before class began. After seeing the effects... if you plan on attending AUC plan on arriving at least a week (2 weeks is ideal) before classes start. Some students still don't have the basics (like rugs, bathroom cleaners, etc) things you don't think about first, but need almost the day after you get here. Remember you not only have to get these things you also need to find out where to go to get them. Prices range from store to store for the exact same product. Cable, Internet, food, everything has a process to it and if you dont know it you either pay too much or it takes you twice as long to get it. People need some time to read the island. The people here are very nice...if you know how to approach them. Nothing is law so sometimes no mattter how nice you are you will be treated badly...you need to know these spots and avoid them. Paying high prices doesn't always equal better...this is true for cars/apartment/food/etc. Why make this transition harder then it already is by giving yourself only 48 hrs...This is moronic. On top of all this if you get here alittle early you can meet students. It is also very important. I am amazed at how much money I have saved because of my new 2nd and 3rd semester friends. Which I found on this site. which bring up my next point. READ THIS @$*&# SITE. Not just the first page, all of it. I knew so much before I got here AND I USED ALL THE INFORMATION. I have asked people if they came here before they arrived and there were a lot of people who knew about this site. and many of them spent very little time reading this site. You all know who they were...the same *@#% people who keep asking about cell phones and clinical sites. Clinical sites? I'm first semester...I know they exist...thats all I need to know. I have a hundred different things to worry about for next month who cares about something that happens after 5th semester.

There is so many things about this place. Many which can't be posted which means you won't know about them until you get here. So give yourself some time.

    My 2 cents

First of all Flash what's with the believing in the Monkey all about. I never did get that.

I posted something up before I saw this post. I love AUC and St. Maarten. I might not be saying that around test time but as for now I love it. This sight has done wonders for me. I second what Flash said about coming down early. I did with my wife and it helped us out tons. Some friends that we made on this sight picked us up at the airport and showed us around. I bought a car, activated our cells and Internet. You don't know how stranded you are when you don't have a car, phone or Internet.

    forum

Yeah, I've been a little bit geeeky about the forum...printing off those tidbits like cell phones, computers, internet, apartments, places to shop, etc. I'm even creating a file folder to keep stuff organized...
This behavior is maybe a little too weird...but I think it will help tremendously when we get there. If we end up comding down for the sept 04 class, we may see about staying with a couple that we met when we visited...I think they will be moving off island at the end of the summer.

New med student before anatomy lab: Fascia....what's fascia?
After lab: I hate fascia. Micro, you do have a point. I believe this is rrod's favorite saying.
