Questions regarding temporary residency and the 30 Days before for ur information

    Advertisements

    Hello,

I am in the May class, and I was accepted shortly before the March 20th deadline for the entrance fees to be in. Anyways, because of the short time I called and asked about it and they said that I should be sure to send the entrance fee in but the rest wasn't such a hurry to save my seat, etc. Well, I read over the paperwork, and missed the first time cuz it is just at the bottom of the Family Information Page, the stuff about Temporary residency info. They want my stuff in 30 days before coming to the island? This wouldn't be a problem but I paid to rush the passport but even then it had no way of being ready within 30 days before going. Has anyone else had trouble with this before? I will have my passport before I go, but I don't have it yet, let alone the information about it sent down to the island. Anyone have any experience with this? Any thoughts. I admit I am a little bit irritated, because once I got in I called and asked what needed to be in quick and what was not such a worry cuz of the short time and they never even brought it up about temporary residency. I can get everything, but not in the time alotted for it to be in by. Anyways, I have tried talking to MEAS about this, but they weren't much help. Can I call somewhere else. Any thoughts appreciated.

you may get lucky with the rushed passport. my future sister inlaw just became a US citizen and paid for the rush passport because she was going on a cruise a couple of weeks after getting citizenship. she got her passport 8 days after submitting the paperwork (ofcourse this was $180 later).

i would call meas, tell them your situation and let them know that you are in the process of having your passport rushed.

What the heck is a temporary residency used for anyways? I doubt it'll be a problem getting you on this rock.

I sent my temporary residency stuff in probably the week before I got here and they just recently issued me a temporary residency permit. The 30 days doesn't seem to be a big deal, and I honestly think I could get by without ever being issued temporary residency. Don't worry about this, just send in the info before you leave.

Well we turned all of our papers in at orientation and still got our temp res papaers before our 1st break. However I know students and spouses who started with us (oh we're 5th now <insert happy dance>) and they still don't have the temp res, maybe they will get it two days before leaving..
I think you'll be ok, but the school does have a changing everything policy so it might have changed. Sorry this may or may not help you.
    Good luck,
