    My experience getting cores

    1. i took the usmle on jan 26th.
    2. i did the oasis trick on thursday (feb 16) and saw that i passed.
    3. i called V at MEAS immedietely to see how full my first choice (providence) was holding up. i was told that there was only one slot left for MI, but he couldnt slot me in it until he had my actual score report.
    4. waited for it in the mail on saturday (feb 18), but it still didnt come.
    5. wished that presidents day was not on monday (no mail) .
    6. received my report today and scanned into an email both sides of it as well as faxed both sides to meas asap.
    7. about 45 minutes later, i got an email from V telling me that i got that last spot at MI.

TO THE CHICKEN LITTLES OUT THERE------ THERE IS NO TOWN IN UK CALLED PROVIDENCE OR MICHIGAN OR SOUTHFIELD.

    -----------------------------------------------
as far as what slots are left, when i found out about the single slot left for MI last week, i also found out about cali (second choice).

3 of 4 was filled for april kern. 0 of 4 were filled for june kern. V had a score report that wanted cali but he didnt know which start date they wanted. so as of late last week, april may have already been filled or 1 slot filled for june.

wasnt interested with new york but they have loads of slots there.

    -------------------------------------------------
this is only the update i got late last week. im just posting my experience, dont take it as absolute. i am not MEAS.

sooo i was reading some posts on this website and i learned something new..... i learned that doing cores in UK or Ireland are automatically considered acgme approved... and i got kinda excited because i had noo idea...so what i was wondering is.. how easy is it to set up clinicals in uk or ireland and how is the availability at these hospitals?? also, how come more kids dont go there if it will solve a lot of these licensing problems? and.... this makes auc a VERY attractive school along with st. george..... i would seriously NOT mind doing clinicals in uk or ireland if it will alleviate many problems down the road...am i right or am i missing something?? i am also aware that one should do some clinicals here, especially those that might be the field a student decides to go into, especially for letters of recomendation....

    thanks a lot

It's really not that big of a deal, you can usually get all your cores at one of the US hospitals affiliated with your school, too. It's not (in my opinion) a major factor in choice of either school OR going to the UK/Ireland.

    Just my opinion.

i dont want to start an argument with other kids... but.. like for example ross... i hear there having problems with too many students and not enough acgme approved clinical spots... in that respect.. auc would be better, because in worst case one could go to uk and get your stuff done there..... just some thoughts going through my head....

one BIG factor is money. i really wanted to be in ireland or london and was scheduled for january last year but i just couldn't afford it with a family comfortably.

also you gotta be a semi gunner from what i hear they don't expect much out of any students and its a learn at your own pace, show up or not show up deal so you gotta be motivated to learn... maybe trmedic can say some more on training differences

Oh, that is just way too funny!! I believe you've hit it right on about "LCME" certification and why AUC and others cannot get LCME.
