Plagiarism and its effects on acceptance

    Advertisements

    Hey all,

I'm currently an undergrad student looking to take the MCAT in the next few months and apply to med school for next year. I'm looking to finish with a 3.5 cGPA and a 3.2 sGPA. I have a very strong resume in terms of extracurriculars, research, etc.

My only concern is when I was a very young dumb freshman I was taking an online course through my university in which I plagiarized. I own up to my actions and I'm not looking to make excuses. I was suspended for one semester and there is a disciplinary file for me, however there is no transcript notation save for the F in the class. I've returned since then, and have had a completely stellar academic record, free of misconduct, since.

Do I still have a legitimate shot at AUA and the big 4? Or should I take several gap years to distance myself from college? I really don't believe that one erroneous mistake should completely preclude me from becoming a physician, its the only career I can see myself in.

I always saw that as the checking felony column when applying for a job. But I don't think it should've that much of an issue you'll probably have to explain yourself in an interview and own up to your mistake in a well authored manner.
