Dismissed from DO - AUA an option?

    Advertisements

If someone has been dismissed from a US DO school, what are their chances of getting into AUA? Does anyone know anyone who was previously in a DO school and now at AUA? what about credits transferring? Would AUA accept completed DO credits and be able to have the student start in 3rd or 4th semester?

Probably depends on why you were dismissed.. I've seen students transfer into AUA from other Caribbean schools like SGU and they transfer straight into 3rd semester so I'm pretty sure they'd accept US DO credits.

You should contact the school directly and speak to one of the admissions counselors (American University of Antigua (Medical School) - AUA). That's the only way to know if you have a chance or not.

As noted above, admission will largely depend on the reason for dismissal. If you were strong enough on paper and in interviews to get into a DO school in the first place, then you should be competitive academically for a Carib school. However, if you were dismissed for cheating or illegal/unethical behavior, then all bets are off. Contact the school, be honest (HIDE NOTHING), and see what they say.

My road to medicine led me through a similar valley (I withdrew many years ago from a DO program). At that time, at least, I found that the more competitive Carib schools were completely unwilling to accept DO credits. I surmised that it was because they wanted more tuition, although they said that it was because allopathic schools cannot accept osteopathic credits. That was one of the things that led me to study elsewhere, in fact.

Regardless of where the pathway leads you, I wish you well.

Thank you so much for your replies. Reason for dismissal was academic. Not professionalism/cheating/unethical behavior etc.

I see from the Ross page that you didn't take step 1 yet and I believe in this case you may have to repeat many courses, if not from Med 1. But no one here will be able to help you so contacting the school would be ideal. GL.
