Q: Rotations and Matching Screening Process (Caribbean)

    Advertisements

    Hey guys,

I'm in my fourth year in the Caribbean in AUA and just starting to think about matching and rotations in the US...
    Does anyone know:
    1) If DURING rotations there is still a screening process? (ie; exams that must be passed)
    2) If so, does anyone get held back during rotations?
    3) When do you write the USMLE part 2?

    Thanks in advance!

You have to pass the Shelf exams after the completion of each Core rotation (IM, Peds, Ob/gyn, Surgery, Psy, and FM) to move on to the next rotation, in addition to passing the rotation itself. You get held back if you fail the shelf exams 2x, then you may have to repeat the rotation again. You take step 2 Ck after finishing the core rotations (and after receiving a score of 79 on the Step 2 Ck COMP exam) so after the 3rd year or so. Most of this info is in the clinical-student handbook.
