Transferring from a low tier Carribean School to one of the big 4 or AUA..

    Advertisements

Hey all, was just wondering..... I am currently studying for step 1 and will be taking it in October or November. I currently am a part of a lower tier medical school in the caribbean ( like St James School of Medicine, Windsor, Avalon, etc.) I have been scoring okay on the practice NBME's (210-216 score range) and was considering trying to transfer into one of the big 4 or AUA for clinical rotations and to graduate from there. Does anyone know anyone who has done this or maybe did it themselves? Please let me know... thank you and good luck!

Any CA-approved school will not be able to accept Basic Science transfer credit from a non-CA-Approved school. So, no. Probably not.

    Wrong.

After step 1 you can apply to AUA. Non-Cali schools get a case by case decision. PM me for more info.

Really? I wonder what the CA board is going to say about that.

I'm sure it was examined with the Cali application. Plus, on rare occasions students have transferred to Ross and US schools. Whether the student can practice in Cali or Cali list states is another story.

Transferring to a US school (it's really only one DO school which has accepted Caribbean transfers) is a completely different situation. You may be giving people false hope here. Just saying.

False hope is the centerpiece of the caribbean!

FWIW when I left AUA a year ago transferring was becoming more and more difficult. I simply assumed it would have become beyond the pale since then.
