Hey does anyone want to discuss these comp shelf exams and how one can pass?

    Hi All:
Let me begin by apologizing. I am not familiar yet how to use valueMD posts as I signed up and well haven't used it that much since and I kinda posted questions in different places unsure if I'll get a response. Sorry am just getting the hang of it again. will try not to do it again.

I decided instead to post a new thread. Please let's discuss the current population of students stuck in a cycle of comp shelfs in order to be permitted to take step 1. I had to take some time off school and now I am back and am faced with havin to pass the comp shelf.

I was just wondering any advice on how to pass? any particular qbanks etc...which could help.

    Thanks...

You should be studying just as you would for step 1. (The comp is supposed to be a 'mini-step 1'.) I used FA and MLE world and passed it the first time on the island. Others use kaplan videos, kaplan q-bank, etc. It really doesn't matter as long as you know the material.

FA (First Aid) is a review book medical students use as guide to study for the Step 1.

Mle world (USMLE world) is an online Q bank where you can get practice questions similar to the Step 1.

Knowing everything in FA + USMLE world = passing the comp and Step 1

I am not yet in med school but I think planning on memorizing is not good intentions. Some things you need to memorize but others you MUST understand and apply concepts. I believe understanding and applying concepts should be responsible for majority of learning in med school.
