    Visa extension for significant other

    Advertisements

    Hi everyone,

I've read numerous ValueMD posts on visa extensions for significant others. I'm preparing to go to immigration this week, in hopes that I'll get my 3 month extension.

I was hoping that some other significant others could share their experiences and see if they had suggestions on specific documents to bring?

So far on my list I have: bank statement showing that I can support myself without work, return ticket, proof that my boyfriend is an AUA student, criminal record, passport sized photos and present residency. Also, I plan on calling tomorrow to make an appointment.

I've had trouble finding information on attaining future extensions. My present plan is to go back to the states every 3-4 months for about a month at a time.

Any information related to this process would be appreciated.

    Thanks!!

    Successful visa extension

    Hello all,

Just thought I would share my overall experience at immigration. I moved down here to join my boyfriend who presently attends AUA. I was granted one month when arriving at the airport and went into immigration last week to apply for my 3 month extension.

To be perfectly honest, after reading other's experiences, I was terrified. As a result, I brought every possible document they could have requested to be 100% prepared. The documents included my passport, my boyfriend's, bank statement showing that I had sufficient funds to support myself here, copies of both of our passports, copy of my return ticket, my boyfriend's white registration form providing proof of his expected graduation date and a copy of my criminal record (which I ended up not needing).

Overall, the it was a good experience. I made an appointment a couple days in advance (make sure to write down who you have an appointment with), arrived with my boyfriend at about 7:30am and was finished by 10am.

Although the process can be frustrating and completely disorganized, patience is key.

If anyone else has questions regarding my experience, feel free to message me.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us! I know you mentioned that you are going to try and go back to the states every 3-4 months but do think that if you wanted to apply for another visa extension, that they would grant you one?

It seemed like I would be granted another extension once my 3 months were up. The big BUT is that as we all know, nothing is consistent or guaranteed down here - especially when dealing with immigration.
