Not to put anyone down who may have gone for a humanities degree, but lets be realistic on this. She pursued a degree in religious and women's studies and her mother didn't sit her down and discuss future job prospects? Its one thing to get a economics, PoliSci, business, or hard science degree in hopes of going to a good grad school or landing a nice analyst/business position but this is ridiculous. Paying $50,000+ a year to get a degree in a purely humanities oriented field is a huge gamble.

What job did she think she would get after graduation that would come even close to paying off her loans (in SF of all places)?
