    possible date for CA approval?

    Advertisements

I just got off the phone with someone in the CA med board and they told me one of the requirements of a medical school looking for approval in the state MUST be at least 10 years old. How old is AUA?

I believe the first class was 2004.

This is kind of unusual as St. Matt's was founded in 1997 but Cali disapproved in 2005 (February). This means the site visit happened when the school was less than 10 years old.

    AUA was founded in 2004.

This is kind of off topic but I have a question regarding CA approval. What if people graduated say, a year BEFORE AUA had CA approval, or even...say....5 years before CA approval happened (granted, AUA gets approved)? Are the graduates allowed to practice in CA?

What needs to happen in order for them to practice in CA? or are they forbidden?

No one really knows. The Cali board can opt to grandfather in students who graduated from AUA from x number of years back. Or they can say there is no grandfathering and only students who start in med 1 from the approval date will be allowed to practice in CA. Up to the board.

When SABA was approved, I think students who graduated 2 years prior were grandfathered.

Just for the record, I've read on a few of these forums, that Cali board went for a site inspection to Antigua. To get our facts straight, according to the Cali board, "were nowhere near that stage. The review of AUA is still in the paperwork stage."

People understand that, cali board didn't visit AUA. it was a Cali school that might be in the works of working out an affiliation with AUA.
