Significant other and visa? Staying with me?

    Advertisements

    Hello all,

I have a few questions concerning my fiance.

first, i want him to come with me and stay with me during my time at AUA. He is currently studying for his LLB degree via University of London External. So he will be busy studying as well. I wanted to know what visa procedure will he have to go through? Can he even come and stay with me? He will be doing his classes online and there is a place to write his exams as well.

Secondly, i herd and read about the new strict rules about bringing non-aua students on campus even to study. Will this be an issue as well or will AUA allow him to study on campus while i am in class?

Thirdly, is there anyone currently at AUA with a boyfriend/girlfriend or fiance who has stayed on the island or is currently staying for the whole time?

Please msg me or just post up your replies.

    Thanks guys.

First question: Unless immigration has changed, he'll get a visa for 30 days when he enters antigua. He will then have to go to the immigration dept downtown and get a visa extension. You'll have to bring proof of income (bank statements, etc) showing that he won't have to work during his stay in antigua. A word of advice for immigration..be prepared to have an 8 hour day waiting around...the antiguan government moves at 2 speeds..and if you don't like the first speed..you REALLY won't like the 2nd.
Second question: since they have a new campus now, you'll have to discuss this with either the new dean or NY office.
3rd: My wife stayed with me for a semester, and other friends of mine had their wives stay the entire time there. One lived in student housing (he was the RA) and the other lived in off-campus housing with his family (they had a 2 yr old daughter).

It "shouldn't". I say that with quotes because anytime you're dealing with the government down there, nothing is 100% guaranteed except frustration.

My wife is with me on the island, there is a small number of student apartments. available for couples, cost is $4200 per semester. You will not be able to bring your significant other on campus, they are now extremely strict. Immigration has not been a problem for us, no one has ever asked for anything and upon entry her passport has always been stamped for 60 days or more. If you have a return ticket less than 90 days I do not think they really ask anything additional...however I do not know what the official policy really is. I inquired when immigration was at the school and they said if a non-student needs an extension call a couple days before they are scheduled to leave for an appointment and it is not generally a problem.
