Concerned about # of AUA residency placements

    Advertisements

i asked a question earlier about class sizes...

i am concerned about the residency placements in the US that are listed on the AUA website. firstly, when compared to SMU's list, there arent very many and the fields in which the placements have occurred are very limited...

does AUA really only have approximately 30 students placed into residency a year?

Good question, I am not sure. Maybe you can ask AUA directly, but from what I have heard there are not that many res./hosptials associated with AUA. Remember, it is still very new, but has grown quickly.

    Antigua match rate ???

Not many are matched from AUA or UHSA, think from my class only 25% matched first year, I matched in my 3rd year after graduation...I had to do a research fellowship and complete my MPH, to increase my odds....
and finally got matched in FM....

From talking to few students at AUA, I believe it is the same there as well.....review Antigua's USMLE pass rates...which is 22.9% !!!
    http://www.aua-med.com/

Not here to bash any school, I think AUA is doing better, and is evolving and progressing school....but just to keep you well informed about your options....my advice, review the top 3 med schools with long hx of solid performance...

    Review programs and Think 10X
    Cheers and good luck !!

WOW! UHSA is trying to compare itself to AUA. You're their one success story here on VMD and it took you 3 years to Match.

Yes the USMLE Step 1 passing rate for the country of Antigua was low in 2007 simply because only one school's (UHSA) students had significantly contributed to that number.
    --------
Now SMU has been around quite a bit longer than AUA with many more years of graduating classes. AUA now has 3 graduating classes: 8 in 2007, approx 25 in 2008 and approx 45-50 in 2009. The reason I don't know the exact number is I haven't seen the final, exact numbers.

AUA has had a couple of graduates not Match on thier first attempt but have secured a spot on thier second attempt. My best estimate for first-time match rate would be 85%+. Maybe higher. We also depend on our graduates to report their results to us. For example we didn't know we have an alumna at the University of Alberta in Emergency Medicine until we were able to track her down through other alumni.

    Antigua

    Dear Tipton,

I'm at least honest, and wish to post TRUE and UNBIASED information on medical schools in CARICOM. I understand that you are an employee of AUA hence have much biased opinion here on ValueMD.

Yes it took me 3 years to match, and yes I believe that 25% grads from UHSA match on their first year.

    On AUA:

Here is a video posted by AUA GRADUATE, on unethical practices by AUA:

You can see more videos and posts here:

This graduate, as myself, had enough with the PIRATE Type behaviour displayed by many of these offshore CARICOM Medical schools, and exposed MANY of the facts on AUA.

    Cheers

Nope. He's not a graduate but rather a former AUA student who was dismissed from AUA for non-academic reasons as you could have told by simply reading through his website. Granted, ANYONE would have some grey matter oozing out of his ears after spending 5 minutes listening to this guy's rants. But I would expect a little bit better interpretation from an MD.

UHSA has a 25% Match rate?!?!? I'm stunned.

I'm a very loyal person and believe in AUA. Unwarranted attacks particularly from UHSA (not necessarily UHSADOC) are offensive to me.
