    A quick question..

    Advertisements

does one enter 5th semester immediately after 4th semester, or do you have to take a semester off to turn in the paperwork and coordinate which location you'll be going to? Do you get to choose which one you want to go to? Is this all taken care of during 4th?

How long does it take to get your step1 score back?

Yes. You enter immediately. I'm in my 4th semester now, and registration for 5th is Jan 8th at most of the locations (I think one of the NY sites is Jan 7th). As for choosing, this semester we wrote down our first choice, and the school used a "lottery" to decide who got what site. Of the 5 sites, Miami and Atlanta have the most "room" so if you put down either as your choice, you're sure to get it. The NY spots and Pontiac are very sought after. First, they look to see if you "need" to be in any of those spots (due to a court order or something crazy like that). They also told us if you lived or had immediate family within 1 hour of the hospital of the site, you'd be given preference to that site. After that, it was back to the lottery. As for your step score, I think on average most people say between 3-5 weeks after taking the exam they got their scores.

so I was on AUA website and one of the require books for Biochemistry is Lippencott's Illustrated Review 5th Edition. However, I wasn't able to find the 5th edition, only the 4th. Is it ok if I buy the 4th instead of 5th edition.

As for reviews, I decided to buy BRS Biochemistry and Molecular Bio. Is this book any good?

Amazon.com: BRS Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (Board Review Series) (9780781798754): Todd A Swanson, Sandra I Kim, Marc J Glucksman: Books

Lippincott 4th edition is actually better than the 5th, in my opinion. The BRS, however, I think is not worth the money.

Can a current AUA student please shine some light on the following queries:

    1. Is the last day for 4th semesters the day of the comp? can i get out of the island the day of the comp?
    2. How is the comp administered. I mean do u have 4 hrs to complete the exam or do u get breaks in between (like step format)?
    3. From the posts I have read I got the impression that every semester class is now held at the new campus. So which group housing would be the closest to campus now? I guess previously crosbies was the closest to the north campus (4th semester class). Is that still the case?
    4. Approximately what percentage of students are unable to pass the shelf (path/ pharm).

    Thanks

    1. Yes. The day the comp is administered is the last day for a 4th semester student. Some people do leave right after the exam.
    2. It's given all at once. You have 4 hours (or whatever it was, maybe 3.5) to do your exam. You can leave the room to go to the bathroom one at a time and you'll be accompanied by a proctor.
    3. Mandalay is the closest, but very limited in the # of rooms.
    4. No idea. But the deans have always stated that they've never had a student who is passing a class fail a shelf. BTW, you have 3 shelf exams in 4th semester. ICM, Pharm, and Path.
