For school officials and everyone else

    Advertisements

    Hey guys,
I had my AUA interview last week and i was told that since currently AUA is not approved by California board and if i were to start AUA before it gets approved by california board, i might still not be able to practice/rotations in california. Even though if it gets approved when it is time for me to do rotations/residency. Interviewer was not sure (If i remember correctly). Anyone else has heard anything else like that?

Unfortunately, most of the time that is the case. Any medical school coursework taken at a school while it was not CA-approved renders the degree ineligible for CA.

There have been a few (rare) "grandfather clauses" that extended to cover students with coursework taken at a school prior to its CA approval, but that is the exception rather than the rule.

If you want to work in CA or in a state that uses the CA list wait for AUA to receive approval.

The CA Medical Board has granted approval to some schools and then indicated they would be willing to accept the past few years, as well. When I read the Saba report I believe this is what they said.

While that is true, there is no way of knowing WHAT the cali board would do when (if ever) AUA is granted approval. So as TMXD said, if cali approval is important to you, go to a school that is already approved.

Yes, agreed. They might backdate the approval a few years or they might not.
