    Modification to medical school application

    Advertisements

I heard that AUA will be increasing their standards and require an MCAT score and a more competitive gpa to gain admission? Anybody know about this?

That would be stellar...if true. Was told it was during my interview.

I am interested in the answer to this question. Why not make the MCAT mandatory? I'm sure it would help with that CA thing, and improve the credibility of the school. Most students have to take it anyway...

The fact that I was admitted is a testament to the fact that they must be desperate for students, and aren't ready to become very selective...yet.

Saba doesn't require MCAT and has CA approval so I don't think it matters. There's no reason to require it anyway, it isn't indicative of how well you will perform in med school at all.

One of my friends who is attending AUA told me about these upcoming changes. AUA is one of my top medical school choices if i dont gain admission in the U.S.

Man. I DID just get served. Leave it to me to run into trouble with the administration before I'm even enrolled.

Mr. W, thanks for the offer, but I'm totally psyched to attend AUA.

I totally agree (come June I'll probably agree more strongly). I don't believe MCAT scores are a good indication of how well one will perform in medical school. The important thing is to simply require that the test be written.

Requiring the MCATs does not mean a student's scores have to be examined and factored into an admissions decision. Just ask Ross (and sometimes Saba)...

Of course, I have no idea what I'm talking about. I just figured that it might be important for CA, since 3/4 "require" the MCAT.

Just an FYI Ross DOES take MCATs into account. You need at least a 20 for straight admin with a decent gpa. If you have less than a 20 MCAT then you get MERPed and if you have less than an 18 you have almost no chance of getting even MERPed
