    AUA - the good

    Advertisements

As much as I love to post about all the horrible things AUA does to make life miserable, I would like to bring to the attention of the people out there reading this thread and considering AUA for May 2009 and there after, that the school is very "up and coming". There are new construction pics up on the AUA website, there are also new 2009 match statistics for those who dont alrdy know. There are 4 main reasons why I think AUA is on its way to becoming a top caribbean school... 1. Match Stats are pretty decent for school only several years old 2. The new construction building are going to bring this school up to par with say, a very very small college in the U.S? which is miles ahead of pop-up sheds. 3. The loan situation has become consistent and now there are even 2 lenders, amazing for a non-federally funded school(not to say there are some quirks in the loan amount) and 4. Antigua just opened up a brand new hospital, which means now AUA can not only say hospital-integrated program, but a hospital-integrated program where students actually go!and getting some real hospital experience does set it apart from many carib schools.
Also, for those AUA haters please post a seperate thread if u don't agree with any of this.... the Title of the thread is "AUA- the good" in other words.... its about THE GOOD.... duh

This post completely contradicts what you wrote earlier:

Basically, the snakes running the show at AUA decided that their new living furniture is worth squeezing 6 students into an apartment designed for 2 and then making them all live on rice and beans for 16 months. AUA admins who are reading this or having it forwarded to you by someone in the NY office, I applaud ur ability to really "care" about the student and achieve it in the absolute sneakiness way possible.
So which is it? Is the school some great up and coming place or run by greedy trolls that only care about lining their pockets?

I find a great deal of humor in that for some strange reason.

Another good thing is the students here are very friendly. They're quick to help each other and share notes. Easy to make study groups. Students don't compete against each other, its a more friendly environment.

Comparably smaller class size about 75-100 students per class, versus the 300-400 per classroom in the bigger institutions. Professors actually remember you!!!

The hospital thing is also good. They allowed AUA students to volunteer at the new hospital, as well as invited us to seminars. I don't know about the whole integrated thing yet, I mean the hospital just opened give it time. The coordinator did tell us how he looks forward to working more with AUA students more. And OMG they don't serve soda in the hospital cafeteria, its like healthy food unlike US hospitals with the McDonalds! lol

The clinical sites are growing! Therefore more opportunities.

AUA students in AMSA also give back to the community by working with the Sunshine Girls (a group of orphans) There are monthly or sometimes biweekly activities set by our students for the girls. That experience motivates me more to become a doctor. Also AUA AMSA held a Health Fair at the Woods Mall which helped out the community in vision screening, blood pressure testing and various other basic medical information.

Sorry for the long message! AUA is definitly going in the right direction. The school selects students not only on their academic merits but also their compassion. I see it in my fellow peers everyday (even in the 3-4% of students who just manage to complain all the time...they're still very compassionate)
