Now, THINGS THAT I LIKE FROM AUA

    Advertisements

    1. If you talk to the right people (by this i mean in...d) the shelf will be a breeze if they give you the files that comes from Ross.

    2. Biochem could no longer be a nightmare if your friends give you old exams from dr.L.

    3. If you don't want to go to the class all the information is avaliable online in the S-drive or the right people will give you the notes from previous semesters.

    4. Most instructors now the material they're teaching even if they dont look at the powerpoints. Dr. neuro will tell you that he doesnt like ppt because students wont show up to the lectures (by even then we have Matt's, Phil's, Rahul's, Marian's Notes and the new ones Angelina and Bratt's Neuro Notes.

    5. You can eat, drink and use your cellphone all in one hour in the library. Epicurean (grocery store) is within walking distance

    6. I can connect to the nature by saying "hi" to the cows every morning in the parking lot. (I dont mean the security guards)

    7. Every landlord knows how much you recieve from loans and they modify the rents to keep almost 55% of your check. The other 25% will go to the grocery store. BUT DONT WORRY you will have 20% for ALCOHOL (Tatoos here i go!!)

    8. If you dont have a bf or gf, The Beach (bar & restaurant) may satisfy you for the weekend

    9. If you dont have a religion you can come and make your own and claim room #3 for your made up believes (dont forget to bring your drum, piano, bass, guitar, microphone and Surround sound)

    10. Lastly, If you want to connect to the world you can have long walks to the beach and realize... There's nothing but WATER!!!

    1. That's why the school is changing shelf exams. It was a new histo shelf for us last semester and a new biochem this semester. Next semester will be other new shelf exams.

    2. L only taught biochem for 1 block..the rest was m and s. This last exam had questions DIRECTLY from the lippencott review questions (open your book, go to the website, etc). And this is the first i've heard of anyone "having" old biochem exams..if you know something, why don't you report it to an SGA rep, professor, or school admin?

    3. True..but other schools are like that as well. If you read the book yourself and understand it, you really shouldn't "need" to go to class. And some people have different learning habits. To each his own.

    4. Not sure what you're stating there. It's true that powerpoints should be used as an outline only and professors could "teach" better..and a few do that, but again..others who don't like coming to class love the detailed powerpoints.

    5. The only reason i go to the library is to make copies/print out stuff. I'm surprised anyone is still in there (and not in the extension) with the mold issues, etc.

6.It's antigua. Livestock is treated above pets, etc here. If your dog is bothering someone's goat, the goat's owner has every right to shoot your dog..and the law is on his side. It's their culture/laws..if you don't like it, perhaps you should study hard so you can get the hell outta here.

    7. I went out once this semester (full med 2). If you have time to go out..i hope you're pulling straight A's..if you're not..stop going to the bars..and study/watch kaplan videos instead.

    8. whatever

    9. I've had the problem once where DFC was pretty loud next door while a TA session was being held. We went over there and they were nice enough to turn down the music. Wasn't hard..I just asked polietly and they said "sure". They even offered to move outta the resource center (where they were getting ready to do a stage production) for us to continue our TA session.

    10. It's an island..of course it's surrounded by water...

i didn't have that bad of an experience at AUA. i guess it really comes down to what you make of it. with the exception of first semester, i worked pretty hard, passed all my classes with B's or A's and did relatively well on the shelf. i really didn't party that much, maybe after a set of exams but i usually took my frustrations out from the school and the island to my studying. at the time, i really hated being that but thinking back now, it really was not that bad.

i'm not trying to gloat but i'm trying to paint a picture for prospective students. there's no reason you can't go to AUA and excell. the classes aren't that bad and are very doable in all subjects. one thing i'll note though, AUA will give you a good base (i was very surprised after talking with some Ross and SGU students how much more information i retained and score wise) but when it comes to your step prep, you really have to dig deeper.

some classes will go a little deeper than you need to (biochem), some classes will be way off track to what's really important (behavioral and micro - although micro has changed from when i took it) and some classes will be right on the money (path, pharm). regardless when you finally get off the island and move to 5th, really take the opportunity to study and review everything. if you didn't pass the comp the first time on the island, no sweat, there's no reason you can't blow it away the second time. it's a very straight forward exam compared to the real step so take advantage of that and blow it out of the water.

I'll believe that....ummm...wait....I don't believe anything they tell us. If they do change the exams one of the secretaries (or perhaps even professors) will sell a copy and it will be out again within a couple of semesters. They are too cheap/lazy to change exams every semesters.

Because it would be wrong to go around spreading rumors and even worse to make yourself a special badge and investigate them.

I'm pretty sure that there is something wrong with livestock wandering around on the road.....

Without alcohol I would lose my mind.

DFC should be disbanded. Along with AMSA and every other student organization. But especially DFC!

I like that I will never be boring at dinner parties--to many stories about frogs in the toilet or how I don't care about cockroaches anymore. Or that I lock the doors with a huge piece of wood.

I like that I now find super serious people even funnier than before. Sarcasm is a language not spoken by all!

I like that Dr. G is pretty much a pirate--swearing, booze, womanizing and all. He is so my hero. AAAARRRRGGGGGGGHHHH S2S3S4

I like that everyone I know is jealous that I live in the caribbean.

I like the fried rice form papi's.

I like the cheese selection at epi.

I like the color of the sea. I love the rain on this weird roof. I like how coconuts fall on the roof and scare the crapola out of me every time.

    I like C and C wine bar.

I like days when I can go to the beach and pretend to be a tourist.

I really liked anatomy lab, even the rat.

    I like the S-drive.

I like the fact that they gave people extra credit to attend a drunken driving seminar. I didn't go, but I heard that it was a lot of fun!

I would like to know where that drunk driving seminar was held. Please do give me the dates as I know for a fact that there was no seminar. As a result there was no extra credit granted. The school is trying very hard to reduce the incidence of drunk driving by spreading awareness. It is the immaturity of the students that they have gotten into drunk driving accidents. It shouldn't be the school's responsibility to take an action, as all of us should know by now not to drive drunk. However, the faculty, the SGA, and the ethics committee is working hard to reduce the incidence. At least the students should appreciate that the school is working to help them. Oh and the seminar's idea was replaced with everyone designing flyers so they can be put up on both campuses during the registration and orientation period. Please try to be more active instead of just sitting back and criticizing.
