    16 months on the Island

    Advertisements

Newbie here. I am wondering how current AUA students usually arrange their 16 months (Med 1-Med 4) on the island. Do you take a summer off after Med 2 or do you take 4 semesters straight to finish basic sciences?

    what 16 ahhahahah

most people don't finish on time and most take 5 semesters, but most students that come here stay and don't take semesters off....But this is not the best place to be..
Look at other universities most of my friends are tranfering to Winsor which is only 5500 per semester but includes housing..........Look into it

here housing is vey expensive from 600 (for a run down) to 2000 for something near school...

um carlos is totally wrong. most of the people in the current 5th class finished in 4 semesters. our shelf avg 4th semester was like a 73

for housing i was paying 700$ a month and lived on the sand 10 feet from the water. my place was pretty nice and i didn't even have to lock the doors.

unless you're in extended basic science, it's very reasonable to finish your time at AUA in 16 months. there are some that repeat classes but to say "most people" is an inaccurate representation.

two ways to get off on the island in 16 months

    1. pass every class. (40% of my original class made it through unscathed)

    or

    2. fail 1 or 2 classes but spend your break taking a remedial course to catch up (30% of my original class)

and obviously the remaining 30% of my class did not make it out in 16 months or ended up transferring.

If you study hard and do what you came to med school to do, you can finish on time. I chose to go to AUA because it is year round and I could get done sooner that if I had went to a US school. It is doable.

semesters are 4 month each, with about 10 days break in between. Winter break is a little longer, probably up to 15 days. Look at the academic calendar on the AUA website.
