    BLS/ACLS/PALS/HIPPA/BloodBorne...

    Advertisements

    Hello Everyone,

Just curious... does AUA require their student to be certified in BLS, ACLS, PALS, HIPPA, AND BLOODBORNE before starting their 5th term or clinical rotations? If yes... wow... because UMDNJ-RWJ only require their students to get ACLS before starting clinical... not PALS

VMD Health Care Training | Online Courses

If I am not a AUA student... can I still go through that website and get certified in HIPPA and Bloodborne? I am already certified in BLS, ACLS, and PALS while I was in undergrad working as phlebotomist.

We need everything you listed except PALS. Also, there are several websites you can go to to get certified in HIPPA and Bloodbourne but since I did it in Aug I don't remember what site. Someone had posted it in a thread so you can always do a search.

You DO NOT have to be an AUA student to participate in any of the classes through VMD Health Care Training (http://www.MyMedCerts.com). They are open to students of all schools and health care professions. Good luck!

To all 4th semester students, do all of the tests using that website (It's a one-time fee of $29.99 and you can do the three requirements- HIPAA, BB, and HIV there). As for ACLS, make sure you pick up your card after you successfully complete the ACLS class on the island. You'll also need to get a police report from your local police department and it can cost up to about $30.00.

    Acls & pals

Most R1 require ACLS.....however, PALS is highly recommended.......Especially if you are considering Peds type specialty....and easy, once you are ACLS certified......just know Peds ETT sizes equation, IO Admin etc.....for PALS.......

I would do BOTH for sure if I were you....

I will have to agree that PALS isn't necessary until PGY-1, but probably won't hurt to have.

As far as ATLS goes, however, you cannot be certified in it before you receive your degree. Simply put, it is a class where MD/DO is a pre-requisite. You can audit the class as a med student, but it won't do you much good since, again, you will probably have to take it PGY-1 or PGY-2 over anyway if having ATLS certification is pertinent to your specialty. Besides, ATLS is very pricy, which is why it is better to have your employer take on the cost, and almost always they will. Also remember that finding a spot in a ATLS class is difficult, as residents have priority. Regardless, for more info see the American College of Surgeons website for schedules and prices...
