    Safety?

    Advertisements

I have read several posts on safety on the island but I was wodnering if anyone could please elaborate. I understand that any city you live in has its crime, but I have noticed that the crime rate has been increasing in Antigua. I intend on bringing my gf and am concerned for her safety due to she is a young/pretty girl. I undestand that you will need to be more consiensous while there but any information would be great.

One of my best friend is down there right now and other friend, she is going this May. From what I talked with them is that you should have a buddy system(3 to 5 in a group) during the night time, especially if you are a girl. Also just be careful overall, as you are in a major city like NYC.

    Congratulations on getting in!!!

i had 0 problems with safety and i used to walk around everywhere at all hours of the day by myself.

if you stick around the good area of the island you don't have to worry about any theft. i know people that had iron bars on their windows and still got robbed.
meanwhile i had sliding glass doors in my living room and bedroom that were unlocked half the time and a front door with a screen (lol). even so i never saw any threatening people around. find an apartment in the runaway bay area and you won't have to worry about anything. plus its 2 mins from sandals and 4 mins from the casino.

North side of the island is nicer/"safer". Jolly Harbor is also a nice area, but a LONG drive to school everyday.

yea i didn't mention it because the rent is outrageous and its a 45 min drive everywhere

runaway bay is a great area with tons of beaches and 10 mins from both campuses.

Try getting a condo at Pillar Rock, it's one of the best places for a student to live on the island.
