EMT/Paramedic Scholarship: Information regarding and how it is suppose to be applied

    Advertisements

    Hey everyone,

I am a Med 01 student and I have the EMT/Paramedic scholarship. It is where you are supposed to receive a value of $1,500 each semester for the first 5 semesters (Med 1 - Med 5).

There was a mix up with it not being fully registered to me in the administration's paper work before I got to the island and it had to be straightened out during registration that first week.

After it was acknowledged by the administration, they informed me that a notice had to be sent to the loan company to reduce the amount of my semester loans (the tuition section of them) by that amount for each of the semesters. I was under the impression that I was going to receive the amounts in each of my student refund checks each of those semesters.

I have another friend who has the scholarship as well who contested that his refund check was $1,500 more than mine this Med 01 semester (besides a $100 difference because of each of our housing situations). I saw his check and it was exactly as so.

I was going to contact my loans company to make sure that they were not just withholding the money.

However, it's been a month into school, and I have not gotten the chance to do so yet before this happened. I received notification that my loans company changed from the Bank of Lake Mills to AES (this is not EdInvest nor AUA Loan Override Loans). I figured, okay, this should be good because I can see what their amount is and the amount should be that newer/lower amount I was going to look for the proof of what AUA Admin had told me. However, the loan amount is not lower and I could be wrong, but it may even be higher.

Does anyone else have situations regarding the scholarship and its execution that could share any stories or shed any light? Lemme know.

    Sincerely,

I think it's your friend who "lucked out". AUA is supposed to "control" the amount of money the loan company allows you to have. (Which is definately shady as hell...) So if you have any scholarships that come in from AUA (not private ones), then aua will decrease your loan by that amount. If your friend received the "extra" 1500 bucks, i think aua made a mistake with his paperwork..not yours.

    Verbatim from EMT Scholarship Application:

All applicants must submit an application with essays for each scholarship, outlining their academic successes and challenges, community service, and/or professional achievements and recognitions.

Scholarship Committee must receive all applications and supporting documentation at least four weeks prior to the start of the semester. Scholarship recipients will be notified in writing and by a phone call within two weeks of the Committee’s decision.

Committee meets every three weeks to evaluate all applicants. Please note that there is no guarantee of a scholarship and the number of scholarship awarded per semester may vary. All Scholarship Committee decisions are final and are not open to appeal.
All awards will be in the form of a credit towards tuition and fees.
If you are unclear about the scholarship application process, please contact Scholarship Coordinator, A. Mercado, amercado@auamed.org
    or 1-888-282-8633 ext. 139.

If you're going to address something to me, might I suggest it pertains to something I wrote rather than something I have posted on behalf of another party? Cheers.

You're right, my bad. I had no business addressing that to you. Sorry.

I now understand how this scholarship is suppose to function and I apologize for previously inquiring about its finances being forwarded to my Semester Student Refund Checks when that is not how it functions. I obviously did not read the fine print of the scholarship over again, after being granted it.

    However,

I still have not seen (by any concrete documentation) the difference of that scholarship amount being applied towards my student loans.

    1) As I said in my first post, my loans were just switched from The Bank of Lake Mills to AES without me being properly informed (that means an individual informing me and then me giving them my acknowledgment in return, of receiving notice). I have not be given a reason as to why this happened yet either. This instance of improper correspondence is something that is both unprofessional and unacceptable.

    2) From the reviewing of my old and new loan accounts with both The Bank of Lake Mills and AES, I have not seen any difference of this scholarship's amount yet. (I have saved all the paper work surrounding this issue.) The amount of my semester disbursements with the Bank of Lake Mills when I was with them, was always stated as the same amount as the "regular student loan amount" outlined in the acceptance materials given out by the school, never lower. And in fact, the amount of my semester disbursements became higher in this transition to AES and not lower. Also, I had signed a contract for my first loan through the Bank of Lake Mills to be a 2 Semesters , 2 Disbursements loan. I have not seen any information yet, that I am currently in the same situation with AES and not just a 1 Semester / 1 Disbursement loan.

    3) I have sent probably 10 emails up to the NY offices (every time, with any and all scanned or attached information regarding the situation) and I keep getting tardy responses with short/incomplete answers and no attached documents of significant meaning Basically the only statements I receive from there are ones such as: "Oh, but Sir, your EMT Scholarship is taking effect." And then I receive additional copies of my student account statement from them, which I already have, and which demonstrates nothing but a number of $1,500 written on a piece of paper by AUA. And that does not qualify as evidence of a loan company receiving the amount. In response to your suggestion of contacting the various staff members, the mentioned emails above did indeed go to Ashley Mercado, Cindy Delone, and Apex Modi. I am currently still awaiting the reply to the last email that I sent.

I could only wish that school correspondence was as quick in official email as it was on this outside “bloggers’” valueMD website.

    Regards,
