question about If I get into 4th year pre med??

    Advertisements

    Hey guys!

I just graduated with my b.s. degree but I havent taken gen chem 2 or orgo 2 and am thinking of applying... Say I get accepted for 4th year pre med. Can I take these two pre reqs in the meantime at a local college in the u.s. and send them my grades and then maybe be put into the basic science curriculum?? Sorry if this is a confusing question.. but I would highly appreciate some help! thanks

Yes..and you should do this...but it will still be up to the dean of premed to decide if you may advance into basic science or not.

    hey preet,
or you can do what i did, just apply to basic sciences and they will accept you into a modified pre-med semester 4. then you take the required courses they tell you to, and go into basic sciences after that.

Also... may I ask Dr. Shaw.. what pre reqs were you missing when you applied and did they make you take random pre med classes with it or just the ones you were missing?

While this general scenario is true (apply to Premed with prerequisites still missing/in-progress). I don't think you should necessarily assume that once the courses are complete you will be able to simply ask for the Admissions Committee to revisit your file for Basic Sciences.

The main reason I write this is because the Admissions Committee in the past year has been dramatically stiffening their requirements across the board. So what happens and applies now may not apply 6 months from now.

I think a good idea is to apply and get in... At the same time your doingthis process take the pre req's.. One because im almost 100% positive that it will be cheaper to do them in the states rather than in anu. Just because of cost of living.

You can always, once accepted, deffer one semester. But you must make sure you mention it in your interview and if there is enough time they might just accept you into basic science pending passing marks in your pre reqs...

    Good luck

Are you positive that gen chem 2 and orgo 2 are pre reqs? I mean those are the classes that you need the least in med school i think... But thats just me... Was your degree a ** in natural sciences or marine biology or something?

Also depending on your age and letters of rec and work experience those classes may not hold as much weight as other things you bring to the table.
