    Failed Anatomy Question

    Advertisements

    Hi,
I didnt pass anatomy last semester and Dr. L is saying it is impossible to take more than one course besides anatomy. Basically I will only be taking 2 classes next semester. Is there any way to explain my situation to him and see if he could let me take just one more? If Dr. L doesnt agree, is there anyone else i can talk to? The dean or Dr. S of physiology?

Also, last semester wasnt dr. L offering anatomy with biochem and genetics?

    Hey,
Im currently a 4th semester. From what I remember, when I was first and moved onto 2nd semester, those who failed anatomy in my class were still allowed to take Biochem and Genetics with anatomy. As far as Dr. L telling you, thats impossible; I guess that may possibly be a change in school policy...?

The buck stops with Dr. L. If he doesn't want to give you more than 2 courses then there's nothing you can do about it.

Ask him specifically, why he's denying you the chance to take anatomy with biochem and genetics when in pasts semesters he's let people take anatomy, biochem, and genetics, or anatomy, physiology, and neurology.

Dr. L said that its been in the student handbook for years that if you fail one course you automatically get placed in the extended program and it is impossible to take more than 2 courses (including the failed course). I dont understand how this policy works because only 2 classes a semester will make you end up leaving the island in like 9 semesters. I dont understand why Dr L cant let me take one more course if hes done this in the past. I hate how they keep changing the policy.

is there anyone else that would be able to help and understand my situation because there were specific health reasons as to why I was not able to pass anatomy, even though I passed the shelf.

Don't mean to change the topic too much but: Do student have who previously taken Anatomy tend to fair better?

From what I understand: Anatomy and BioChem seem to be the most difficult at AUA? Does a background help that much? I havent taken Anatomy but I really want to before I go anywhere.

If you passed the Shelf then you automatically pass anatomy. If you passed the shelf you need to go to the Anatomy dept to get that straightened out!

yes, but dr. c sent an email out to all the med1s saying that passing the shelf doesnt necessarily mean you passed the course.

but my question remains, how is it possible that i can only take 2 courses next semester when in the past dr. l has offered anatomy with 2 other major courses to past semester students.

Passing the shelf with a 64 automatically passes you, right? Passing the shelf with a minimum of 53 won't automatically pass you, will it? Just to clarify.

That's correct, a passing grade on the shelf (64 or higher) automatically passes you. A grade below a 64 is not a passing grade but it will not automatically fail you. A grade below a 53 will automatically fail you.
