For fellow students attending Is it pretty much safe if you go out in town by yourself during the day? Has anyone had any bad experiences??? Just curious to know if there was anything to be aware of or worry about.

How is the atmosphere on the island?...The towns people? Any info would be appreciated.

    Just curious...thanks!

Things are safe around the old campus during the day. If you're an incoming Med-1, that's where you'll spend all your time. Just use your street smarts...don't flash alot of cash, etc. At night, I'd use the buddy system when you go out.....no different than you'd do if you went out in Manhattan at night. Overall atmosphere is no different than any other city...some nice people...some rude people. Generally speaking, a 'please' and 'thank-you' will go a long way. Just don't come down expecting the US/Canada level of service and you won't be disappointed. The island moves at its own speed which is usually quite slow.

"Quite slow" is an understatement...unless you mean the crazy dump-truck drivers on the road. They drive like they're in the movie "Gone in 60 Seconds." Just be smart when you're down here. Last semester a premed student was mugged..she was "followed" on her way home back to her house/apt (she was driving btw). Took her money and left. Just keep an eye out for things..just like in the states..if a car is pulling in your driveway that you don't know..dont get out of the car..keep driving somewhere else..etc..Like jgilbert said..same as any other city.

LOL....my attempt to be diplomatic. You'll understand what I mean by "quite slow" when you get here. Cyberia is right though...the drivers here are insane...passing on blind curves...passing with oncoming traffic. Some of the school bus drivers make it look like a wild ride at Disney World.
