    CD/DVD for laptops?

    Advertisements

I found a laptop that is less than $500, within my budget, that doesnt have a CD/DVD thing in it. Can't really afford a laptop with everything on it. Is that ok? Do we need that for PreMed or Med?

Could you receive mail on the island?

Honestly..i would have a working cd/dvd drive down there. If windows crashes (which it will at some point) and you're asking me to reinstall it for you, it's ALOT easier if you have a dvd drive. Keep in mind that "help" is either fellow students, or you shipping off the laptop back to the US..which means you'll be without a computer for almost a month. Check out ebay or the local stores for refurbished deals. I'm sure you can find a decent one for around 500. As for mail..yes we can get mail there..but it took 4 months for the birthday card my parents sent to reach me..the mail service isn't the most reliable down there (along with everything else in antigua).

I've received about a few packages from back home. My mother sends it USPS priority mail and it takes about 10 days. The pain is picking it up downtown at the post office, across from Kings Casino.

You can buy new laptops for about 450-500 these days. I recently bought an Acer laptop for $499 at Bestbuy.com. Just search the deals on Slickdeals.net.

...and besides you have to watch movies after class and then study if you have the energy. I might of confused the order on that.

Hey if there is a frys electronics store, or microcenter nearby, I suggest go look there. I was just there over the weekend at the kansas city store, and they plenty of laptops that were below 500, with good specs. They had a cd/dvd burner, a core 2 duo processor, 15 inch screen and I think about a 160gb hd with 2 or 3gb of memory running vista. That should be enough for your computing needs on the island. I really dont like bestbuy cuz they rip everyone off. The people who work in the computer department know crap about computers, and they will try to sell you their expensive repair policies. Dont buy anything. if you need extended warranty I suggest you use American express to buy the laptop, and they will automatically add one year warranty on top of the manafacture warranty. Or you can go to squaretrade.com and buy a warranty from them will be much cheaper. If you have any questions you can msg me on here.
