    Shelf question

    Advertisements

How many questions on a shelf do you need to answer correctly to pass a shelf with a 54. I took neuro and I think I answered 66 out of 125 correctly and I have no clue about physio shelf as it was a killer. I am passing both classes but I am wondering if I will fail due to the shelf. How do you know?

It depends on what other students who take the exam scored as well. The average score will be made into a 70. (if the mean # of students got 65/125 right..then 65 questions right becomes a 70%). Here's the lettering taken from nbme's website..
"the subject examination scores are scaled
to have a mean of 70 and a standard deviation of
8 for a specific group of first-time takers who took
    the examination"

Here is an interesting article I found on CNN - cant link due to low post count - but its on CNN in the Health section under the happiness heading.

In this time of exams, loans, etc. its nice to see something like this. Just like happiness can spread as this article suggests, so too can negativity. So it looks like its time to purchase a bag of Laffy Taffy and get to work. Oh well, enough for the sentimental moment, back to the books. Good luck everyone!

Yes Physio tends to be one of the harder shelf examinations...In fact every single person that I talked to coming out of that exam always thinks that they performed poorly. After the last one today, we just sit and play the waiting game...
