    Aua federal loan program

    Advertisements

What will it take for AUA to get a Federal Loan program like Ross and other Caribbean schools?

I just remember the faces of those poor students that came in and were told to leave the island immediately because their student loans did not go through. It's something I would not wish on anyone.

So I hope that they make this happen ... it will really help the schools rep and the students who attend the school.

    any comments or ideas?

That's unfortunate. How many people were there?

Federal loans aren't granted to any more Carib schools. The few that have them got them a long time ago when the law was different. They were grandfathered after the new laws came into affect. Having said that, it looks like resent changes in legislation will allow for one more Carib school to receive federally backed loans. Only those schools meeting criteria may apply.

yes, exactly how many students were turned away?

did they not know that their loans did not go through before arriving at the island?

    Not necessarily.

These students could be upper term students who started with loans but couldn't secure different funding when the financial climate changed and loan companies went out of business. Tough spot to be in.

students weren't told to leave. they simply were unable to pay for tuition.
what's the point in staying here if you aren't attending school..
unless you decide to take a vacation.

a lot of new incoming students (me included) did not find out we were rejected from loans til we got down here.
and others that were eventually approved didn't find out til a couple weeks into the semester.
the loan process is a bit slow.. and it takes time.

    that absolutely sucks.

school and loan company need to work together more efficienty so decisions are made before the beginning of a semester so it doesn't hurt the student. additionaly, i recommend stuents start applying early as possible so they know their status beforehand.

I really hope they pull together and work out a deal to get the Federal Loan program.

I've met so many brilliant medical students here who will no doubt become great physicians in the near future.

AUA is a good school with a lot of potential and a lot of great students ... I hope it works out for us !!

yes two of my friends were unable to complete their 4th and final semester, but they're studying for 4th on their own now and I kept them updated through out the semester. One is increasing her credit and the other just go a co-signer so hopefully they go through.

I wonder how many other had to go through this.

It appears I will not get a loan with AUA's great lender. So I will have to pay out of the pocket for the first year... So much for my savings. I hope AUA tries a little harder in getting a better lender with more reasonable options. The lenders they have been using are the absolute pits; the lending terms are very very unreasonable. In a way I am very happy I did not get the loan, because now I will not be screwed with the origination and insane interest.
