    Incoming 1st semester Medical Students

    Advertisements

    Hey guys you made it to AUA and are probably preparing to come to the island Jan semester.

    Just want to recap what worked for me, and some suggestions of what I think you can do to get an A on all of your classes for first semester.

    Anatomy -- focus on your Atlas and Netter's cards 50% of your exams are solely on pictures and structures in the body.
    so if you have these memorized that's 50 points in your pocket !

    -- Always review the class powerpoints
    -- make sure you go to all of the review sessions with the T.A's
    -- go to every lab there are only 2 good lab professors Dr A (get his package) and Dr S. If I were you I would miss any other persons lab to go to their labs you'll thank me later b/c you'll be doing this after your first exam.
    -- BRS and Michigan questions !!!

    DPS is not as easy as everyone says ... you have to read and review the powerpoints !! it will help you b/c it reinforces what you learned in Anatomy.

    Histology you also have to work hard but if you stay consistent with your reading you will be o.k

    Good luck !

    you can focus on powerpoints and netters if u want. but if u want a high shelf score you won't do that. u will do this instead.... read your damn moore book(don't skim it!). it should only take you 1 day to review a chapter of essentials word for word. brs questions, rapid questions, utah questions. the michigan questions are too easy and will give u a false confidence in how much u know. questions, questions, questions. There r like 3 or 4 rads pics on ur shelf, netter pictures will earn you 0 points directly, however you can learn many Ant-Post, Sup-Inf relationships from it. emrbyo is 20 out of 120 questions and they r not that hard, mostly cardio and urogenital.

    Do you really have enough time to spend 1 day to review a chapter of essentials? Oh yeah, What are these Utah and Michigan questions all about? How do you get them?

    Utah and michigan q's are from the respective schools' websites. Just do a google search for utah anatomy, etc.

    60 = no good

    64 is the bare minimum... in order to be competitive you should ideally strive to have your minimum score out of all your classes to be 70.... and if your tocuhing 80 on a few your doing ok and headed in the right direction! its doable! 70 is ok and correlates to about a 200 on the steps, 80 is 225... and a 64 = barely passing with a 182... again these are "theoretical" values

    keep in mind you are taking these shelf exams after 4 months crunch of each subject. If I were given just a month to review any subject now, I bet I'll get 80+. Not that I'm over confident, just saying, with time and review, shelf exams will be a lot easier than the first time around. Just my $1 -.98 cents.
