    Med 1 semester recap

    Advertisements

As we near the end of our first semester here at AUA I must say to those coming in Jan 2009.

You will not regret coming to AUA !

at first you might have a rocky start (I know I did), but ALL the professors are amazing and they ALL truly care about the students well being.

Antigua is not the greatest place in the world, but hey ... we're here to study and not party or site see. So if you are a student who likes to be challenged and looks forward to the opportunity to grow and mature as a future physician AUA is the place for you.

I can't wait for second semester, and I was very pleased with our SGA members who fought and made a bunch of things possible for our AUA students.

Please feel free to ask me any questions concerning AUA if you are a new student or prospective student and I will give you my honest answer!

i am a new student and will start Jan 09. I have few questions:

    1. can u please tell us how classes are taken, meaning how often do we take anatomy for example and so on.

    2. how big are the classes and do students have study groups?

    3. I think if you answer the question posted before me that says tell us how you schedual your day? it would be helpful

    thank you

your a med1, please do not say ALL professors. u have experienced 25% of them at best. im not trying to destroy the AUA dream, its a great school for what it is, but the reality is you will b on ur own for a few classes coming up. not ALL professors are great, infact some can barely understand their own test questions. also not ALL professors care. bottomline u will experience the professor who does not care if you pass or fail, they will teach you the best they can, if you fail - then the motto is "see u again next semester".
P.S. you CAN wait for 2nd semester. most med 2's close their eyes and pray that when they open them the semester will be over.

med1 weekly schedule consists of 3 2-hour anatomy lab sessions and 5 1-hour anatomy lectures, 2 2-hour histo labs(which is really double lecture), and 4 or 5 1-hour histo lectures, also 2 1-hour doctor and society lectures. doctors and society is "intro to patient examination". Also you will have 3 "required" observation visits to the antiguan hospital(which is 90 degrees and gross) and a CPR certification class which is a 4-hour joke. schedule is M-F, but some med1's this semester i heard were lucky enough to get a M-Th schedule

Yes as a med !! student i want to voice my opinion about med ! ~.. you CAN sight see and party in med 1.. in fact you should as to keep your sanity as well as getting your alcohol or drug fix because 2nd semester is no joke--- they really lay the smack down on students by having 4 extremely time consuming classes together in one semester. i am an avid promoter of going to class and didn't miss any 1st semester or in undergrad for that matter and after doing just class average on the first two blocks (3 tests in one day = block) i stopped going to class and studied independantly on my own and went back above the class average to my normal 10 to 15 points. i wish i would have listened to people at the beggining and then i may not be as worried about the selves as i am now.

overall.. try it out everybody works differently.. but either way... GOOD LUCK.. AND AS GLSSER SAYS DON'T FORGET YOUR LUBE....

fyi as a med4 leaving the island in 20 days i'd like to point out that the school is horrible, antigua is horrible, and the students here are the worst of the lot.

    lol.. cynic.
    but i must admit..
you don't know me but you've saved me considerable time in neuro.

some classes are worth going to.. others aren't.
    some teachers care, some don't.
bottom line.. you do gotta know this stuff..
and sometimes that mean teaching yourself.
we're paying aua for an m.d. degree..
that doesn't necessarily include educating you.
