Has anybody gotten into med program with lower GPA and/or MCAT score

    Advertisements

Just curious as to see if anybody has gotten accepted into med program with lower grades and/or MCAT scores and/or lack of medical related work experience? I'd appreciate any input, thanks alot!

I have a 2.6 GPA and have completed gen. bio I and gen. chem I with C's, gen. bio II with a C, and gen. chem II with a B. I am currently completing my college algebra class now. I have my freshman year of sciences out of the way and all my gen. eds. I scored a 1350 on the SAT Reasoning Test. I haven't taken the MCAT yet. I don't have any medical related work experience. I was wanting to apply to the pre-med program. What would my chances be?

i think you should still apply if you really are determined to become a doctor. as long as you make thatpoint obvious to the interviewer and your personal statement, it shouldnt be that bad.
they also have an extended basic science program

I also think they will admit you into pre-med, I advise against this highly. One, your missing out on U.S. undergrad degree. 2 its a lot harder to get money for school outside U.S. Not to mention even if you do get the money expect interest rates of 10%. Do whatever it takes to complete ur undergrad in the U.S. Med school is hard to get into and AUA gives many intelligent people a chance who couldnt get into US. BUT pre-med is easy to obtain in US

also note that if you are accepted, you will most likely be put in the decelerated program

    good luck

pre-med in the caribbean is way more expensive than in US and many pre-med students end up "taking time off" to figure out if they want party or continue to study, or decide to return to US completely

If you're wanting pre med you should be fine, but if you want med then you might wanna go ahead and take the MCAT just to strengthen your application. I had a low GPA and low MCAT score and I got in med 1. And being in the decelerated program isn't bad. I was in it last semester, did well, and had the option of being taken out of it. I chose to stay in and this semester I have biochemistry, genetics, and histology.
