    Hey,

I'm from Jacksonville. But I'll be flying out of Orlando...I found that to be cheaper. Good luck and see you on the Island!

    Housing

Here is the number for a bedroom apartment with 2 1/2 baths that quite close to the shopping mall as well as the school. It didn't list how much it rents for it also can come furnished or unfurnished 268-464-4410.

    housing

Hey i'm new student starting in January. i was wondering what is the best option for housing on the island. and if it is more cheaper and convenient to have your own transportation rather than use the schools.

    Thank You.

    Go independent...

My advice to you... DO ANYTHING POSSIBLE TO GET INDEPENDENT HOUSING!!! The housing coordinator here at AUA is possibly the worst example of service I have ever seen in my life. She acts as though she cannot be bothered when things go wrong and is one of the most rude people I think I have ever met. When she posts notices or letters to the students living in student housing, she speaks to you as if you are a retarded 5 year old. Seriously, do yourself a favor and try to get independent housing. It is cheaper and less hassle.

As far as transport is concerned, you can live with the school transport as long as you can relax and get used to the fact that you are going to spend a lot of time waiting around to get to and from school. It's livable.

    Good luck!

you should really try to get a car. unless school transportation has improved remarkably, it's all about delays. everytime there is any kind of school event, the buses are rescheduled for a later time, and no matter how little you care about the event, you have to wait. despite paying for school transportation, i had to pay for incredibly expensive cabs countless times because of rescheduling.

This is no exaggeration. Laura, the housing person, is the worst. It takes everything in me not to strangle the $#!+ out of her with every encounter we have. I have never been spoken to in such a derogatory way as she speaks to the students.

Independent transport is a good idea. You don't want to be relying on the buses / taxis because you will spend so much time waiting for someone else to get you where you need to be. Not to mention the expense! It's not cheap down here folks. Go figure, a 3rd world country that costs more to live in than a major US city.

Sure! You can get a 4 wheeler. You can even get a riding lawn mower if you want to...anything is legal on the road here. Just be careful because they drive like MANIACS here! Oh - and they drive on the left side of the road and the steering wheel of cars is on the right - not a major factor...just an interesting point.
