    need advise???

    Advertisements

    hey wassup
I have been accepted for the Sept. class for AUA and IAU, but I don't know much about either school. So, can someone help me out in what's a better school or anything else? Both these schools look the same to me, but it's just on different islands.

I really can't say anything about IAU, but it doesn't have much of a history. AUA doesn't either, but it does have students in clinical right now and it has had a New York site visit. We are all waiting to see if AUA gets New York approval.

So far it doesn't look like IAU has had any site visits. It also doesn't look like it has any students in clinical. That doesn't really mean it isn't a good school it just means it is even newer than AUA. I am also sort of curious about why the links on IAU's web site for Texas A&M don't have any mention of IAU. If I were you I would call Texas A&M and find out if they know about IAU. If they do have a link program with Texas A&M then it is probably a good school.

These new schools are tough to figure out. Many schools have gone under without ever getting a single student licensed, so be careful. Do your home work and make sure you go there first and check it out.

You should also look into the credentials of the professors. AUA has their professors listed on their web site. IAU doesn't which makes me wonder.

    Good Luck

TYSON FOR MODERATOR!!! AUA's faculty and administration is top notch..picked from best and experienced.. I think the guy running the other school that you mentioned was a fired dean from st. chris. he has also been involved with schools in gyana.. i'll definetly go with aua, since its president and team were and are involved with success stories and the focus is to make always better and better..

I chose AUA for a couple of reasons:
    1) Top class faculty
    2) Up and coming program
    3) Program can be completed in 40 months
    4) What a great opportunity to live in Antigua!!
    5) Curriculum modeled after US programs

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

I am actually rather happy just being a participant for the time being.

I tend to agree with drforlife about these two schools. If I had to choose between them I would choose AUA.

AUA too new of a school??

what does anyone here think about the fact that AUA is a relatively new school. I mean it was opened in 2004!! Is anyone scared at all that it's a little too new to know how students will do in Residency Placing? I mean the school can't even give us any stats yets on their reputation...because they don't have any yet. Someone please respond and tell me your opinion.

Just my opinion - I am waiting the to find out if I am accepted at AUA. The Pluses for the school are the people who left Ross to staff it, also they have some plum green book clinical rotation sites in the US, are connected with Tulane medical school (so I have heard), and they have Dr. Seymore Schwartz MD, who is considered to be a top surgical writer and lecturer on staff now. Some of the first wave students have passed the step 1 exam.
    - On the negative side - the tution is higher than some of the more established schools. We don't the step 1 pass rate or average scores or how many had to do repeat tests, take falcon or kaplin review courses or what their facilities are like.
