The real truth about aaims medical school

THE REAL TRUTH ABOUT AAIMS MEDICAL SCHOOL JAMAICA
History from September 2012 to August 2013

My research reveals that AAIMS MEDICAL SCHOOL first appeared on value md circa November/December 2010, and that classes started in January 2011 with six students.

One of the promises made to these students was that at the end of their two years (six semesters) of Basic Science training, AAIMS MEDICAL SCHOOL would provide clinical training for their students in Jamaica. Such students would not have to take the USMLE exam

As the first two years of their studies came towards an end AAIMS MEDICAL SCHOOL changed its tune, as is evident from this edict from the Dean.
FURTHER INFORMATION REGARDING THE SIXTH SEMESTER AND
PREPRATIONS FOR USMLE STEP 1 EXAMINATION

    1. For USA & Canadian Students
It is mandatory that all USA, Canadian, Caribbean and Jamaican students holding a USA passport or US or Canadian Citizenship register for and pass the USMLE examinations.

    Other Students
Although it is preferred that all students take the USMLE examinations, it is an optional choice for non- USA and non-Canadian students.

    a. These students who wish to appear for the USMLE will be required to register for the examination and then will receive 6th Semester training similar to that for USA & Canadian students.
    b. Students who prefer not to appear for USMLE examinations are required to sign a Waiver to indicate their voluntary decision. These students will get the "Introduction to Clinical Medicine" exposure in the 6th Semester, under the aegis of local doctors.

    2. All 6th semester students, USMLE and non-USMLE track have to appear for and pass an AAIMS Comprehensive End of Semester examination:
    a. For Students who are in the USMLE track this will be an examination that is similar to USMLE Step 1.
    b. For Students who are not in USMLE track this will be a Comprehensive Examination (200 all-embracing MCQ's, covering Basic Sciences and a Practical OSCE Exam- 4 stations. This will include assessment of Communication skills and Introduction to Clinical Medicine skills).

    3. Tuition Fees will remain the same as listed for other Basic Sciences semester fees.

    4. If any student fails the End of Semester exam, the same examination rules relating to re-sits and repeats, as obtained in the previous semesters, will apply and such students will not start Clinical Rotations.

    5. USMLE-track students will have to pass Step 1 to be eligible to start Clinical Rotations thereafter; they will get 2 attempts to pass the exam and 8 months (including VIth Semester) to submit their pass score. Any deviation from this rule will result in de-registration.

    6. Students who opted for the Non-USMLE track will be eligible to start Clinical Rotations in the Caribbean after successfully passing their examinations. They will, however, be de-registered if they fail the Comprehensive MCQ Exam and/or the OSCE after 2 attempts.

    7. For USMLE track students:

    a. AAIMS is providing Online Access to “KAPLAN CLASSROOM ANYWHERE”-This is an
excellent interactive review program offered by Kaplan.

    b. Live Lecturers teach online by video and students can ask questions. They also get access to Kaplan 2000 Questions Q Bank. These provisions are for a period of 6 months. The current Program ends Dec 4th. and it is expected that they will yield good results.
    8. For Non-USMLE track students:

Provisions for the 6th Semester will include attendance at Private Doctors’ Clinics; these are being arranged initially in Mandeville, Manchester, Jamaica.

    9. It is planned that MD 2, 3 and 4 will be offered these or similar arrangements for the Sixth Semester.

    10. For those asking about CAMC Exams-
Please note that this examination can be taken only AFTER obtaining the MD degree. This requires passing a Multiple Choice Examination, then pursuing a one-year internship at a recognized hospital, then sitting and passing a day-long OSCE Examination.

    11. For those asking about ECFMG please note the following
The purpose of ECFMG Certification is to assess whether International Medical Graduates (IMG) are ready to enter U.S. residency and fellowship programs that are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). ECFMG Certification is a requirement for IMGs to enter such programs, to take the final Step of the United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE), and to obtain an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States.

    ECFMG Certification Requirements

    • Complete Application for ECFMG Certification
    • Satisfy medical science and clinical skills examination requirements (currently USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 2 CS).
    • Verification of the required medical education credentials including the final medical diploma and final medical school transcript.
Office of the Dean, October 15, 2012
IN A PIECE OF DOUBLE SPEAK THE STUDENTS WERE NOW TOLD THAT
It is mandatory that all USA, Canadian, Caribbean and Jamaican students holding a USA passport or US or Canadian Citizenship register for and pass the USMLE examinations.

    Other Students
Although it is preferred that all students take the USMLE examinations, it is an optional choice for non- USA and non-Canadian students.

NOTE ALSO THAT THE SUPER STARS WHO ADMINISTER AAIMS THEN PONTIFICATED THAT

    8. For Non-USMLE track students:

Provisions for the 6th Semester will include attendance at Private Doctors’ Clinics; these are being arranged initially in Mandeville, Manchester, Jamaica.

THIS IS WHAT THE JAMAICAN STUDENTS GET FOR THEIR MONEY FOR WHAT PROPER SCHOOLS OFFER AS INTRODUCTION TO CLINICAL MEDICINE.
AFTER ALL THEY DON’T HAVE THE STAFF TO OFFER THE SO CALLED INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE TEACHING THEY ADVERTISE, NOR DO THEY HAVE THE STAFF TO OFFER A PROPER COURSE IN INTRODUCTION TO CLINICAL MEDICINE.

SENSIBLE STUDENTS WILL STAY FAR FROM THIS SCHOOL.

THE REAL TRUTH ABOUT AIMS IS THAT IT IS FULL OF DECEIT
    AAIMS students receive 'white coats'
    Wednesday, December 12, 2012

THIRTY-SEVEN students at the All-American Institute of Medical Sciences (AAIMS) in Black River, St Elizabeth, were last Thursday presented with their white coats at the Everglades Conference Centre, in Parotee, St Elizabeth.

The presentation of white coats to the students is recognised globally among medical training institutions as representative of undergraduates' completion of, at least, the theoretical aspect of their studies. The exercise was being undertaken in Jamaica for the first time. Having completed theoretical training in medicine, the students of AAIMS will now be assigned to clinics and hospitals to pursue their internships.

Whereas it is true that globally among medical training institutions that the presentation of white coats to medical students who have completed the theoretical aspect of their studies- also called the Basic Medical Sciences, the truth of the matter is that ALL the AAIMS medical students received white coats. .......the only students that weren't issued white coats are the pre-med students. Even students that were doing their first semester received white coats.

The truth of the matter is that NO AAIMS STUDENT HAS COMPLETED the theoretical aspect of their studies- also called the Basic Medical Sciences. NONE. NADA! NO, NOT ONE!

The truth of the matter is that the students of AAIMS ARE SO POORLY PREPARED THAT NONE OF THE STUDENTS WHO HAVE GONE THROUGH THE FIRST SIX SEMESTERS OF THE AAIMS TRAINING PASSED THE AAIMS EXHIT EXAM.

The truth of the matter is that AAIMS CAN NOT ASSIGN ANY OF THEIR JAMAICAN STUDENTS TO ANY HOSPITALIN JAMAICA FOR CLINICAL TRAINING FAR LESS TO DO THE INTERNSHIPS THAT FOLLOW COMPLETION OF THEIR MEDICAL TRAINING.
The truth of the matter is that AAIMS CAN NOT ASSIGN ANY OF THEIR JAMAICAN STUDENTS TO ANY HOSPITALIN THE USA, BECAUSE MO AAIMS STUDENT HAS PASSED THE USMLE EXAMS.

This statement in the Jamaican press ( Having completed theoretical training in medicine, the students of AAIMS will now be assigned to clinics and hospitals to pursue their internships) IS FALSE AND DOWNRIGHT DISHONEST!.

What are we to conclude? Are we to conclude that AAIMS are playing GAMES or are they just DECEPTIVE and DECEITFUL.
It is clear that with the poor publicity that AAIMS has received in the blogosphere that they are desperate to appear relevant.

AAIMS will do anything to get into the spot light. Instead of saying that they gave white coats to the 37 (mostly Jamaican) students that they have been able to attract in two years, they blatantly lied when they told Jamaica that they have 37 students who are now moving on to clinical rotation. They lied like this when they know full well that they only have one cohort of 5 students that have finished their program, and taken their exit exam, which they all failed!

Any one who knows anything about AAIMS knows that AAIMS only have 5 students in cohort 1 and 3 in cohort 2, so how could they possibly have 37 students who have completed their two year program which consists of six semesters.

I personally CAN NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THEY HAD 37 STUDENTS SUPPOSED TO HAVE FINISHED 2 YEARS [IE 5-6 TERMS] WHEN THEY ONLY HAD SIX STUDENTS IN COHORTS 1 AND 2.

Whereas it is true that AAIMS is an Off-Shore Medical School that was officially chartered by the Government of Jamaica in 2009, the first classes were not held until January 9th 2011 with a part time faculty, and a weird curriculum which is very different to that of established Carribean Off-Shore Medical Schools.

Let the truth be told - AAIMS is struggling for recognition. It is shameful that any one could call the awarding of white coats to first semester medical students "an achievement that has been well earned", by the students, or as an accomplishment worthy of celebration..

ARE WE TO UNDERSTAND THAT AAIMS AWARDS MEDIOCRITY AND NON COMPLETION (FAILURE) AS ACHIEVEMENT THAT HAS BEEN WELL EARNED OR AS ACCOMPLISHMENTS THAT ARE WORTHY OF CELEBRATION.

SURELY THERE ARE WELL ESTABLISHED SCHOOLS WHERE MERITOCRACY AND NOT MEDIOCRACY HOLDS SWAY.

As a parent of a student at AAIM I would like to know
1- Is AAIMS another money making machine under the guise of an offshore medical school?
2 Are the folk at AAIMS really serious about this statement on their web site? >>>>>>>Welcome to the AAIMS web site? the premier Medical School in the Caribbean, providing Medical Education Par Excellence!
3 Is it really true that AAIMS has the distinction of being the only medical school in the world run by a few old women, who never went to medical school and where over 98 % of the teaching staff are part time.
4 Are so called faculty meetings at AAIMS still held via skype and poorly attended.

AAIMSedu under the heading Questions from Prospective Students
Dear Prospective Students, AAIMS officials will be regularly monitoring this thread to answer any questions that prospective students have. Please feel free to post your questions.
Can AAIMSedu answer any of the questions being asked, or rebut or debunk any of the allegations made on the pages of valuemd?
6.Why is it that AAIMS won’t/can’t reveal the location of clinical sites, whether in Jamaica, or elsewhere. Why is it that after almost three years of operation no one knows where clinicals will be head up to now

7 Is it true that the fact there no histology in your course offerings has caused the students in learning pathology a lot of headaches and heart ache
8 Is it true that AAIMS may well be a well disguised laundry doubled as a retirement fund for all the retirees that work there like the registrar and her brother and the so called executive dean and her husband, none of whom never went to medical school
9 Is it really true that its cheaper to go to UWI than to attend AAIMS. Check the fees below. Note that UWI IS ACCEPTING OVERSEAS STUDENTS THESE DAYS..

    University of West Indies
    Jamaica,
    Caribbean $33,080

All American Institute of Medical Sciences
    Jamaica
    Caribbean Pre-med: $4,200 USD/trimester
    Basic Sciences: $6,000 USD/trimester
    Clinical Sciences: $7,200 USD/trimester

    SUMMARY OF AAIMS FACTS
1- AAIMS is an Off-Shore Medical School that was officially chartered by the Government of Jamaica in 2009, the first classes were not held until January 9th 2011 with a part time faculty, and a weird curriculum which is very different to that of established Carribean Off-Shore Medical Schools.
2 the students of AAIMS ARE SO POORLY PREPARED THAT NONE OF THE STUDENTS WHO HAVE GONE THROUGH THE FIRST SIX SEMESTERS OF THE AAIMS TRAINING PASSED THE AAIMS EXHIT EXAM. OR THE USMLE EXAM

3 AAIMS CAN NOT ASSIGN ANY OF THEIR JAMAICAN STUDENTS TO ANY HOSPITAL IN JAMAICA FOR CLINICAL TRAINING FAR LESS TO DO THE INTERNSHIPS THAT FOLLOW COMPLETION OF THEIR MEDICAL TRAINING.

AAIMS CAN NOT ASSIGN ANY OF THEIR JAMAICAN STUDENTS TO ANY HOSPITALIN THE USA, BECAUSE MO AAIMS STUDENT HAS PASSED THE USMLE EXAMS.

4 AAIMS is guilty of holding a white coat ceremony for all of its 33 medical students in 2012 even they know that none of the students had completed their theoretical training in medicine.
THIS WAS FALSE AND DOWNRIGHT DISHONEST BECAUSE EVEN FIRST SEMESTER STUDENTS RECEIVED THEIR WHITE COATS

5 AAIMS IS GUILTY of proclaiming in the Jamaican press that the students of AAIMS would at that time be assigned to clinics and hospitals to pursue their internships.

REPEAT: THEY GIVE WHITE COATS TO ALL THE STUDENTS ENROLLED IN MD SCHOOL 37 STUDENTS IN SIX SEMESTERS [AVERAGE OF SIX ONLY PER SEMESTER]
When that advertising was done, no one had completed exit exams or NMBE SHELF EXAMS OR USMLE EXAMS. NO ONE AT ALL HAD EARNED THEIR WHITE COATS, AND UP TO NOW THERE ARE NO STUDENTS IN CLINICAL ROTATIONS
6 BECAUSE OF THE poor publicity that AAIMS has received in the blogosphere that they are desperate to appear relevant.

7 AAIMS REWARDS MEDIOCRITY AND NON COMPLETION (FAILURE) WITH WHITE COATS AS IF IT WAS ACHIEVEMENT THAT HAS BEEN WELL EARNED OR AS ACCOMPLISHMENTS THAT ARE WORTHY OF CELEBRATION.
8 AAIMS IS THE ONLY MED SCHOOL WHERE YOU GET YOUR WHITE COAT WITH OUT EARNING ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ENROL

9 AAIMS PROMISED ROTATIONS IN JAMAICA TO JAMAICAN STUDENTS IN THE ATTEMPT TO ENROL THE 90 STUDENTS THAT THEY WERE TOLD THAT WAS NECESSARY FOR THEM TO BREAK EVEN NOW THEY ARE SAYING THEY HAVE NEVER PROMISED
THEY PROMISED ROTATIONS……..EVEN THOUGH FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE COURSE TWO YEARS PLUS AGO THEY KNEW THAT THIS WAS PROVING TO BE A DIFFICULT PROPOSITION.

10 AT AAIMS NEUROLOGY HAS BEEN TAUGHT BY A GYNAECOLOGIST, AND THE REGISTRAR’S BROTHER ATTEMPTS TO TEACH HISTORY TAKING AND DR PATIENT RELATIONSHIPS EVEN THOUGH HE IS NOT A DR AND HAS NEVER SEEN A PATIENT IN HIS LIFE.
11 AAIMS SAY THAT THEY ARE THE PREMIER MEDICAL SCHOOL IN JAMAICA. DELUSIONS OF GRANDEUR
12 WHEN INTERVIEWD AAIMS STUDENTS SAID THAT THEY DO NOT THINK THAT THE SCHOOL IS PREPARING THE STUDENTS WELL TO BE COME DRS.

13 WHEN INTERVIEWD AAIMS STUDENTS SAID THAT THEY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AAIMS TO ANYONE.
14 WE CAN PRODUCE IN COURT A WITNESS THAT HEARD THE PRESIDENT OF AAIMS SAY THAT THE USMLE OBJECTIVES IS NOT A SYLABUS AND YET THE SCHOOL IS PREPARING SOME STUDENTS FOR USMLE. So if you not preparing students for the USMLE by following the USMLE objectives how will they pass the USMLE exam?

15 AAIMS is a SCREW UP AND THEY CAN NOT REFUTE ANYTHING SAID ABOUT THEM ON VMD. AAIMS STUDENTS CLAIM THAT AT LEAST TWO OF THEIR TEACHERS HAVE BEEN SCREWING STUDENTS ON CAMPUS AND THAT THIS IS KNOWN TO MANAGEMENT.
HOW DO THEY REALLY EXPECT ANYONE TO PASS ANY LICENSING EXAMS, ANY WHERE ANY TIME SOON?

Are we to conclude that AAIMS are playing GAMES or are they just DECEPTIVE and DECEITFUL.

Well I don’t know either. I am just the messenger asking questions. You prospective students must decide for yourself. I know that I have told the truth and nothing but the truth

I was recruited heavily by someone from the Chicago office a few years back, during the first semester they started. I ended up going another route, but holy hell did I dodge a bullet.

I've always kept tabs on this school since early-2011, just to see how it would have been had I gone. I haven't been to the school, but from the lack of activity in this forum and then negativity in this thread, it would be ill-advised to attend this school.

7 US students only? I understand every new school has to start somewhere but this school must really suck if they can't lure screw ups with tuition this low.

Yes SIR! You were lucky not to attend.

AAIMS took the money from the students in those first two cohorts of eleven hard working students and only 2 could pass Step 1!
I feel for sad especially for "Nicodemus" and "Louie Jamie" and "Do we teach for the step?" and Dr AP etc

You will notice that nothing that has been said about AAIMS om this forum can be refuted. NOTHING! YOu see the truth PREVAILS!

The AAIMS MANAGEMENT are at it again!
They started in January hoping to attract Americans to what they call the premier medical school in Jamaica---an obvious lie.
While they waited to have hordes of would be Americans gracing the shores of Black River, they opened the doors to would be Jamaican doctors who could not make the cut to get into UWI- the REAL premier medical school in Jamaica
However, this ploy has not permitted them to even reach the break even point.
SO THEY ARE OFF TO CANADA SEEKING THE GOLDEN FLEECE.

One expects, however, that when the Canadians read these pages and discern the truth- if they have not yet done so-AAIMS will be seeking students among the ESKIMOS
