Life on Bonaire

Here is some general info about life on Bonaire:::

Living in Bonaire is very Relaxed. Several bars and VERY HOT. Near the equator so don't bring any Suntan lotion less than 40+ if you burn or else it won't work.
Houses vary but most people live in non air-conditioned living rooms with AC in the Bedrooms. Small kitchens. Cost range from 200 to 600 dollars a month for rent. Depending on where you want to live with 600 a month being the HIGH end. Food is expesive and there are limited quality fruits and vegetables since EVERYTHING has to be shipped in. Water is very good to drink but expensive since it is desalinated. About 30 to 40 USD a month if you are frugal. Electricity is about 80USD per person a month.
This program is Fast and Furious. Get ready 8)

Feel free to ask any more questions or add to the experience....

Unofficial Island Guide

Frankenstone,

What would be great is if you could provide a list of things that the incoming May and Sept students should bring; such as those items that are not found on the island (or are expensive to purchase). Should we purchase our books before we arrive? What kind of cell phone's are compatible?

And maybe some island tips as well, sort of an unofficial guide to the island, and anything else that is relevant.

I'm proud to have you on as our moderator, you're doing great!

Sticky

BonaireMD,

I will post a sticky soon on what all students should bring to Bonaire. Thanks for the support. I only want people to be successful doctors, at least, those who truly want to be and not for the money or because their mom and dad wants them to be.
