Xavier INFO

To all prospectives and curious people,

Tonight I attended the white coat ceremony at the Plaza resort in Bonaire for Xavier. One of the reasons I attended was to see if what they told me was going to be true or not. The other is to see what their ceremony was like. Also, I wanted to get a feel for the President, and other execs that were there. So, here is my report.

First, the ceremony was held at the plaza which is probably the nicest resort on the island. There were six people in the ceremony plus one that couldn't make it. They had a live jazz band which was a nice touch. I thought that they spent a heck of a lot of money for 6 or 7 people but it was very nice nevertheless.

When I visited the school a week or so ago I was told that some people from a large US school would be here to talk about having formal affiliations with Xavier. There was other guests from the school there also talking about how impressed with the curriculum they were and how hard the administration works to provide a quality education. They said they looked at the curriculum in depth and said there was room for some improvement and that is what this affiliation would help achieve. Aditionally, some guests from the managed health care network New York (NYMD) and was talking about the excellent program at Xavier.

I was fairly impressed and my wife and I talked with several members from the University for most of the evening.I also talked with the president and he seems OK so far and the top financial guy at Xavier was very attentive to my questions and concerns. Afterwards, there was a large buffet, "refreshments", and mingling.

I left feeling very good about the direction that Xavier was taking and several of us decided to definitely "seal the deal" with Xavier. d I like the way the school has progressed since my last observation. I will be scrutinizing it a little further before forking over the final payment..:P

I will be attending a special open house tommorrow and hope to see more of the same. We will see. Feel free to PM me with any questions.

questions

1. Ask them if (and when) the Aruba campus will be listed separately in IMED and WHO (and not under the Netherland Antilles).

2. What loan programs are available (and their associated fine prints)?

3. Ask why Xavier need/want to open up a new campus in Aruba. Will they be shifting their Bonaire campus over? Do they have that much money that they can spread it between 2 campuses?

update

Xavier,

As everyone knows Xavier has no labs. I asked when they were getting them set up. He called the Dean and he told him to make sure to have the first lab ready to go by next semester. Told in a sit down with admin that this was there #1 priority. I talked to the Dean separately and he said yes they were going to have it ready.

Questions

Hulk,

They said there is no plan to move the campus to Aruba.

I say let's see if the Aruba campus even comes online. You know what I'm sayin'?

What questions for the premed or BSC wasn't answered? I wasn't aware of any. Some questions he said he didn't know the answer to. But I wouldn't say they were major things. Unless I missed something. What are you referring too?

Outrstanding things

My big concerns for the future that I will be watching for are, making sure there are quality professors and enough classes and whether they make good on the lab.

I'm not saying they are a problem but I am keeping my eye on things. I will give you all the update when it comes.

now u see the pics....wut my concern was....though some of the profs at xavier are very very good.....it is simply too much to expect them to overload them on the courses to teach....

right

If the professor teaches more than 2 coursed then its a problem. But he did say that they would make sure that that isn't happening.

Also, The Dean said to me he hasn't finished the schedule so it's not a problem yet. We will see I guess.
