Question: Where do XUSOM graduates go for residency?
Hi all, I'm interested in applying to Xavier and I would like to know where graduates go for residency in terms of USA, Canada. I read some older posts (from '05-'06) which lists states that aren't approved. But what states are approved? Is there a list of graduates available?

To the best of my knowledge - The only two island schools which students have landed back in Canada are SGU and Saba. Your chance of getting a residency from this school are close to nil and none. As that most Canadian residencies are filled by Canadian schools
As that Saba and SGU normally only have one or two students get in them each year. I would not believe anything the school tells you about this - they are a new school with no track record and zero Canadian exposure. Just because there is a possibility does not mean it will happen.

Hey forget about Canada if you are going to go to Xavier extremely difficult to get residency back in Canada and you have to write more exams when you go back.
As for US yes Xavier is limited in its states, but current students have found residencies in Illonois and Georgia and Ohio from the ones i have spoken to. |

Ga, IL and OH are pretty easy to get into - They are under served states. Ohio does have the one time only on step 1 - you have to pass each step test the first time you take it. I think Frankenstone got a Ga residency. He was one of the first Xavier grads.

They were stuck there - no they did not like the school admin - the clinicals. They found their clincals to be a joke - these are the most important part of your medical school education. In clinicals you are exposed to real MD's doing rounds and teaching. This part of education in medical school can't be done in a building with a teacher and a textbook but a hospital with a large volume of patients. It is very experiential, if you are not at a good place how will know what to do? You can't watch Grey's Anatomy and learn to write records - interview patients - get the idea! They had to suck it up and do the best they could to get the pits in residencies.
