Is anyone doing clinical rotations in chicago area? If so, which hospital/hospotals and what cores are offered. Can one do all the cores and electives in chicago area? How do you like the hospitals? Can you get back to back rotations?

I was also curious about the rotations offered in Chicago, are there any students out there with feedback? If so, are these rotations green for all cores and did you need to pass step 1 before starting??

You can do all your rotations in chicago. There is green book and blue book available. You must complete step1 to do green book. GMC will not allow you to rotate in chicago unless you pass step because they only have green book available, they have green and blue book avail in ATl..and they tell you it doesnt make a dif..which is blatant lie. Bonaire allows you to do both green (step1 passed) and blue (not step1 passed)book rotations in chicago..or green and blue in ATL.

If your an aruba student and wish to do blue book rotation in chicago..you can...just bypass GMC and do your rotations threw AME or AMI..they pretty much handle rotations for all FMGs in chicago...bet you didnt know you could do that lol.

Ok, I understand the green vs. blue rotation situation and what needs to be done to obtain both, but what about inpatient and outpatient settings. It says on the GMC website:

22. Will my clerkship be inpatient (hospital setting) or outpatient?

Your rotations will take place primarily in outpatient settings such as community clinics and urgent cares. However depending on the location of the clinical rotation (i.e. Atlanta, Georgia), your attending physician and the hospital policies with regards to IMG, you may find access to hospital wards and be able to follow your patient while admitted, under the direct supervision of your attending physician.

My question... is this the standard method of doing rotations and would state medical boards question these types of outpatient rotations vs inpatient hospital settings???

hey i dont know if this is the standard way of doing rotations. But in quite a few of my rotations i have rounded on a daily basis with the atende. So it is true, yes you do get a a bit of inpatient exposure.

But that doesnt neccesarily mean you have a green book rotation.

From my understanding, blue books are in an outpatient setting. You may do inpatient rounds with your attending, but that does not count as green book, because your not with the hospital, your just another scrub thats shadowing the doctor and the hospital does not officially recognize you.

GME is gonna say alot of stuff and give you the run around...but at the end of the day..there is a reason why Med students are suppose to pass their step1 before rotations, so they can be doing green book rotations.

dont listen to gme when they say it doesnt matter....its a business to them.

Hi. I will be starting my clinicals soon. I would like to go to Atlanta. Does anyone know how good or bad the Atlanta rotations are? Secondly I would like to know which hospitals and clinics that we will be rotating at in Atlanta. Lastly, I will be moving to Atlanta and would like an advice on where to find an affordable and safe apartment that will be somehow close to most of the hospitals or clinics that I will be rotating in. I also need an advice on what kind of medical software to buy for my pda. Thanks all. I really need help with these questions as soon as possible.
