family ???

Hi, I’m a prospective student looking at attending your school in Sep. I was wondering if anyone that is currently attending the college has brought their family with them. If so were there any problems …. Visa’s, housing, schooling for children.

Bonaire does not allow students to bring family with them for longer than 90 days. Seems silly since you would be spending a lot more money on the island for their needs which in turn gives more income to the residents of the island but that's their rule. Xavier has this posted on their website under immigration if you want to read more on it.

family

Ya, I was told that by Xavier. The funny thing is St. James Medical School is on Bonaire and they are helping me with getting my family there. Sort of made pick easier.

dont be so sure. I'm a SJ student and was also told sure no problem you can bring your family...Yeah the immigration office says SJ knows students are not permitted to have family come on this island unless its for a 90 day vacation. I have a meeting with the Lt Gov of the island on Monday to beg to keep my family here. Sorry.

bringing family as a student

I am starting MD2 at Xavier Bonaire and initially came with my family.
I was lucky enough to talk with the governor of Bonaire who explained that when they came up with the student immigration rules they didnt even think to consider that students could be married and/or have children. He said they had a single parent student who wanted to bring their child and several married couples w and w/out children who wanted to come so they have to do these case by case.
There is NOTHING in place to allow the spouse and/or children on to the island for more than 90 days at a time and more than I believe 6 months in a year. The only thing you can do is make a case to the immigration dept and they can give you an exception but their is no guarantee.

There is no way St James can override this so I am not sure why they are saying you can bring your family. Keep in mind, I have listed out the legal way. I am pretty sure you can bring your family and children and have them stay longer. I doubt the Bonaire Govt will track them down and ship them out but make sure when you leave the US that their return ticket shows a departure of less than 90 days so they can at least enter Bonaire.

For other reasons, my family went back to the US before we could go through the petitioning process.
