schedule

Will postponement of the first day of class to Sept 12, 2005 affect the schedule at all? Will classes still end on Dec. 16?

Very Good Question

Yeah.... how will the rescheduling affect when the semester ends? Also, if classes still end on the 16th how will that affect lectures because obviously if the end date remains unaffected the semester will be shorter.

questions unanswered

That doesn't answer my question, regarding why it was falsely stated before that WHO accreditation was in hand, specifying that such accreditation allowed for possibility of practicing in Aruba (see your initial post). I also recall Frankenstone, a previous moderator, saying that he had been shown the WHO listing by the admin, but now you're saying that it's only the letter by the government that has been sent to WHO, and not the acutual accreditation by WHO. You just gave me a round-about answer without actually answering my question. Is your wording always deliberately fuzzy, or is there a method to the madness?
Also, you did not answer the question asked by ghostwriter either... when was the letter posted to WHO?

I have been reading through previous posts on this forum concerning XUSOM, and I have to say I am quite wary about the way the administration/officials deals with things. I will be taking my money elsewhere, regardless of your response.

    • Xavier University School of Medicine has on file a signed copy of both the IMED and WHO letters. Please contact XUSOM at xavier@valuemd.com, 1-609-524-4050, for verification and/or a copy.
    • IMED and WHO clearly specify our accreditation, allowing students to practice in Aruba.

One of the many reasons we moved to Aruba was because we had the Arubian government copmlete our WHO letter by signing it, something that was unable to be accomplished through the currently changed rules and regulations of Bonaire. We will be POSTING the WHO letter as soon as it is returned.

Cool My Opinion

I have been reading the posts for this forum. I read the students concerns and also the Xavier administration answers to the students. I have to say that Xavier's administration seems very fishy to me. The way they say one thing and then change it to something else. In my opinion I wouldn't trust this school....

Credit Hours will be consistent with with every other semester and end on December 16. For more general class related questions, please contact the Dean of Basic Sciences at XUSOM.

For the Third and time answering this particular question;
The process for all schools requesting WHO- A WHO letter is composed, the letter is hopefully signed off by the country's governement granting their approval, WHO letter is sent to the World Health Organization for their approval, WHO letter is sent back to the University. WHO gives no time frame for the letter's return, we are at their mercy. And so we wait.......

As mentioned before we have a copy of the letter which is for public knowledge. The reason we said that you could see a copy of the letter that was sent to WHO was so that you can know what exactly it states and that the government has signed off on it's approval (which in the case of some schools has been a large part of the battle.) THERE IS NO TWIST OF FUZZY ANSWER. This is fact. We are waiting for it's return , sent in June, from WHO and if you would like please contact the school for a copy. I apologize if there was confusion about the procedure or our status. And once again, once we are granted our WHO accreditation, it will be able to be used by any XUSOM student looking for liscesure.

Please understand that we are not here on this site to argue or debate. We wish to give only factual and current information for the benefit of students. If you have a personal question or concern, please....... please contact us by phone so that we may help you. We have multiple administrative representatives on hand to work with you.

Thank you for your concerns which needed to be clarified.

so basically...

basically what the school is saying is that they're not accredited by WHO as of YET...now that doesn't mean they'll NEVER be accredited, it just means they'll have to play the waiting game, but for how long and what WHO's response will be (ie. accreditation or not) is anyone's guess. So rather than just flat out saying "no we're not accredited," they're trying to make the situation sound hopeful, cuz it can really go either way.

To sum it up...i think its a risk right now to go to Xavier, but the situation can change anytime...any day now...

PS - maybe other schools can tell us how long it took them to get a positive response from WHO

I am surprised no one realizes that WHO does not make a list anymore and so no matter what happens with that letter, Xavier will never be placed on teh WHO list. The only list that is used by the US anymore is the ECFMG FAIMER list.
