Xavier recognised in TEXAS ??

Hi you all,

I got accepted for the jan 09 semeter. I am going to enroll in the 4yr MD program.

I talked to one of the students who went to XUSOM and is now doing his clinicals in Atlanta. He said that you can't practise in TX when u graduate from XUSOM. No u can't do residency nor get a license.

So today morning I talked to TX medical board. And they Said YES !! U can ! They will just need some documents ( called Zpack) and once they verify it, u can do residency and get a license !!

Anyone going from TX ? Any one know which of the two person I talked to is right ? Can v practise in TX ?

My understanding is that only about 3 or 4 Carib schools will enable grads to be automatically be accepted in Texas. They include SGU, Ross, I think AUC and one other.

Grads from all other Carib schools are processed on a case by case basis. Texas has some strict rules regarding lisensing, ie. all rotations must be green book. Is Xavier able to provide these?

This might explain the discrepency. Both sources could be correct.

Texas is case-by-case is most instances as long as the school is not on the disapproved list, with exception to those schools that are on the approved list. Also, if a school is on the disapproved list, then that is a NO GO for Texas.

Disapproved list ?

Well, Which disapproved list do we look into ? If have looked into california's list of disapproved schools, and Xavier was NOT there !

So where do we look into ?

Hey Ya'll,
I'm in the same dilemma...is it Tx approved? I got into Ross, Saba for August 2009, however this school for Jan 2009. I'm trying to figure out if it would just be better to wait and go in August to those big 4?

its funny when someone who comes to XUSOM ask about TX or california. except the top few in each MD semester are having hard time even to pass their exams. first of all worry about getting your MDs then worry about where you practice. don't be fooled by false hopes. even the school knows where their students stand. they'll laugh at you if you ask such a question!
